Robbie Deans: Proud of his players

Wallabies coach Robbie Deans praised his players' effort in Saturday's backs-to-the-wall 25-19 win over Argentina in Rosario.

So satisfied was Deans with the result that he hailed it as one of the most satisfying wins of his tenure.

"I'm proud of the group," he told AAP.

"I think tonight was evidence of the meaning to this group and obviously we've experienced a fair amount of adversity but we'll get the benefit of this time.

"One of our focal points was not to let the crowd in, and particularly early.

"They silenced the crowd early (leading 15-6) and they didn't allow (the Pumas) to get a leg-up.

"This is a fantastic experience for these blokes... it was genuine old-school."

Australia, who were without more than half of their first-choice team through injury also had to overcome the early loss of lock Kane Douglas (head knock) but Scott Higginbotham came off the bench and starred along with fellow flanker Michael Hooper.

This win was a morale-boosting one for the Wallabies and almost certainly ensured that Deans would see out the year in his job.

The Wallabies' next match is a third Bledisloe Cup Test against unbeaten New Zealand in Brisbane on 20 October before they head on their three-match end-of-year to Europe.

Sorry geoergesmith but didn't the Wallabies win despite your predictions? Arent they still rated 2nd best in the World? Weren't those losses in the past and didn't Australia finish in a higher position at the RWC than either Scotland, Ireland or Samoa? Wasn't it the ARU who need to be blamed for the Scottish loss rather than Deans? The ludicrous positioning of a game so close to the Super Rugby competition and on top of the series against Wales, which the Wallabies won, played a significant part in that loss. Your lack of understanding of the game and your negativity shines through like a beacon. All it seems you can do is slag players and call for Deans to be sacked. What a pity we cant sack you from this site as we are fed up with your repetitive crap.

NZ missed kicks in that game as well, just that ours weren't 55m dreamer shots which had no chance.

yes mere mortal, I did see it. I didn't include ABs as they are on a different planet and not our countries here on earth !

For another couple of weeks at least !!!

darthbok... um... were lucky to draw with Pumas actually. All this business about should have beaten the ABs at home.... Maybe and then again maybe not... you cannot predict the outcome of a game by opportunities missed. The mere fact that changing the outcome of any event (for the point of this arguement let's say, I dunno a kick at goal?) intrinsically changes the events that follow is enough to allow for all eventualities. So even if the Boks had kicked all their penalties it still wouldn't necessarily mean they would have won the game, Maybe in another sequence of events the ABs score 3 tries in the last 20 minutes hahaha.

As you often remind we mere mortals, make sure you read and understand the posts. Daftbok says "more talent than any other country, other than New Zealand", not. Small point but important.

Are you serious ? Mr Mayer, changed the team (kicked out the kicker!!) and brought in new blood, as a result scored tries !!! They beat the second best team in the world. He is doing a great job with what he has to work with. SA has more players than anyone else, not sure about more talent than any other country !!!

@ darthbok

This article has nothing to do with the Boks or Meyer.

R. Deans shouldd do the honourable thing and resign. He is not a Test level coach and this is evident from the brand of rugby Wallabies play and also his performance record which includes thrashings against ABs annd losses to Samoa, Scotland and Ireland. Enough is enough.

Darthbok: they have great physicality and big players with huge pride, but there is more talent in most other top 10 teams.

Kudos to the ref who stopped the game 10 seconds to allow Legend Roncero to leave the field with a standing ovation from argies & aussies filling the stands. What a great moment.

the knives will be out for a certain Mr Mayer -the springbok performance has been dismal -- could have beaten the Kiwis at home with an average kicker, should not have drawn with the argies in argentina -- fluffed so many oportunities , no confidence in their running line -- a predictable game plan , and just no flair or originality. there is a case here for player power to raise its handsome head and take over this team. SA has more talent than any other country , other than new zealand , and makes none of it.I bet the saffas abroad could field a better side than the current crop of spongebobs, homers and family guys.
