Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll has been cited for stamping on Italy flank Simone Favaro in Saturday's Six Nations clash in Rome.
O'Driscoll was sent to the sin-bin for only the second time in his 14-year professional career in the first half of the defeat to Italy at the Stadio Olimpico after bringing his leg down on Favaro's chest, causing the Azzurri openside to yell out in pain.
A brief statement issued by the tournament organisers confirmed that independent citing commissioner Aurwel Morgan has decided the incident warranted further scrutiny.
The date and location for 34-year-old O'Driscoll's hearing has yet to be announced.

rightly so I am a leinster fan and he deserves a good few weeks for that stamp. How very uncharacteristic from a player of his standard. No excuse for that stamp.

It was uncharacteristic for O'Driscoll, but if you watch the video , you can see that he's reacting to the fact that Favaro has an Irish player in a choke hold on the ground and is clearly pulling back hard on the players throat.
Again - The reaction was over the top and atypical for him, but certainly appears to have some mitigation there.
Given his record and the circumstances I can see them finding that the yellow card was sufficient penalty..But then again, this is the citing process! - could be anything from no penalty to 6 months given their track record.

Don't think sin bin has been around for the full 14 yrs of BODs reign. Hope it does not keep him from HC or Lions. BOD, no one will remember this: you are a Legend of the game and last game can not effect that at all.
