That's sport: Dan Carter

All Black fly-half Dan Carter has vowed to bounce back from his latest injury setback after being ruled out for a month with a broken fibula.

The all-time leading points scorer in international rugby was forced off during the Crusaders' Super Rugby final 33-32 loss to the Waratahs.

Earlier this season Carter had taken a six-month sabbatical in order to rest his body ahead of the 2015 World Cup, but this injury is the latest in a series of knocks which have restricted him to just six All Black Tests since the start of last year.

During that time, Aaron Cruden and Beauden Barrett have stepped up in the fly-half role while recent call-up Colin Slade has been performing well for the Crusaders, but 32-year-old Carter insists he has no intention of giving up his spot any time he soon.

"It's frustrating but that's sport. I'm obviously out of action and I'll have to rehab it for a few weeks," he told

"The timing of it is one of the most frustrating things. I've had an extended break and been working extremely hard to get back and playing to the level I'm happy with. I felt like I was just starting to get there and to get a setback like this, that's probably the toughest thing.

"In terms of next year, the World Cup and all that sort of stuff, that's over a year away. The bone will heal and I'll be back in a month or however long it takes. There's a lot of rugby to be played and I'm confident I can get up to speed and get up to the high standards I push myself towards."

His All Black skipper and Crusaders team-mate Richie McCaw, who took a sabbatical last season, added that he expects Carter to bounce back.

"It's disappointing," he said. "It would have been great to have him out there over the next couple of weeks. Injuries are all part of it and he assures me he'll be right again soon."
