New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been called "a disgrace" by Wales assistant coach Rob Howley after striking Bradley Davies in Saturday's Test in Cardiff.

The incident forced Davies to leave the field in the opening minutes of the match and has been widely condemned by fans and the media after video content of the incident circulated online.

Hore's blindside shot on the Cardiff second row has been cited, with the hearing on Wednesday.

"What Hore did has got no place on a rugby field, as far as I am concerned," said Howley.

"It was an absolute disgrace. He has been cited, and I am sure it won't be taken too lightly.

"Situations and incidents like that have no place on the rugby field, and it had a huge impact on the game.

"You don't traditionally think the All Blacks want to do things like that. They are a good enough team not to so we were very surprised by the actions of the player.

"Bradley has severe concussion and cannot play this weekend.

"It was pretty obvious that something untoward had happened.

"Whether the referee should be able to go to the TMO in those situations is something for the IRB to decide."

jmanngod....... your postings clearly indicate that the ¨Village Idiot¨ is actually YOU.

Spartacus......... you are the assistant ¨Village Idiot¨.

You should find another job, because jmanngod will be hard to shift from that Nē1 position. No real career path there !!!

Yes this was a despicable and cowardly act by Hore that should've been punished by the referee straight after it happened. Glad to see that the IRB have cited the incident and hopefully Hore will be punished appropriately.

But we cannot trust the IRB after their past mistakes with Thomson's additional 1 week suspension after already been given his sentence, as well as Greyling's diving forearm shot on Richie McCaw during this year's Rugby Championship that only received 2 weeks. The IRB have proven they are extremely inconsistent with their judiciary hearings and sentences, and quite frankly they need to sort their crap out.

But let's not forget about Wales' own indiscretions. Like Porridge_Time has already said, take a look Andy Powell's dirty high tackle on Andy Powell that went completely unpunished - http://youtu.be/XT2LnhR6mhY

As a rugby fan, all I want is consistenty from the judiciary when dealing with dangerous incidents like these.

7redcards - Don't hold your breath. The maximum suspension Hore could possibly get is 8 weeks for striking with the arm.

Yes, he is a disgrace. Typical example of how ABs players from 1-15 all resort to cheating to win games. This guy should get lengthy ban.

I've just been watching the video again frame by frame. It is clear that Hore never "struck" anyone in the sense reports are suggesting. That makes it sound like he threw a punch.

What actually happened was that Hore hooked Davies around the side of the neck with his hand going down the chest - not even across the neck or anywhere near the head. He threw him to the ground and it is unclear why Davies was knocked out. Two possibilities are that he struck Hore's knee on the way past, or it could also have been Corey Jane's boot.

The way the media and people like Howley are whipping up the lynch mob, it is bound to end badly. Either Hore will get an unfairly harsh treatment, or he will be dealt with fairly, in which case there will be howls of protest all round. Given the Thomson debacle, I fear the former.

Quite how you think this is NH coaches and press being either hypocritical or sensationalist is beyond logic.

Look how many articles being devoted to Hore's reckless act compared to how many there are on just how crap poor Wales were compared to the All Blacks. Instead of leaving the incident to citing commissioner they are ranting on about it and in my opinion using it as a means to deflect from just how poor their side is.

I'm amazed that some people are trying to defend this. And suggesting that it's because NH rugby is not as god as SH rugby.

Bottom line is that Hore hit the player around the face, when the players back was turned. Indefensible. Some peope on here really need to wise up. If it was a SH player on the receiving end of this, you'd be bitching and moaning too. It happens in rugby, it shouldn't but it does and it needs to be stopped.

...um...ok, so I have to admit upfront I am a kiwi... but, this talk about Hores cheap shot - guys, rugby isn't ladies knitting. Read Gatlands comments that he saw Hore cleaning a player out around the fringes of a ruck, but yes - it went wrong. That's it! It's not a deliberate cheap shot, it's a clean out that went bad and he'll be cited for it and no doubt suspended for a period of time - but remember the Welsh player shouldn't have been there - was he deliberately loitering around the back of the AB ruck to slow the ball down? Who knows? Who cares! It's rugby. Do you think Wales would have won if the ABs had 14 men? Really, is that what it takes to beat the ABs? How about manning up and playing them at the edge of the rules of the game, being as smart, as tough and as ruthless as they are? They are the best team in the world for many more reasons than just cheap shots!

TVaddict says...

At the end of the day this was; a strike to the head from behind, off the ball, at the very beginning of the match (i.e. no goading involved), and resulted in the player going to hospital. Big ban in order.

He's been labelled a disgrace in NZ too...

Bokwhinger, Bryce wasn't banned from reffing, were you banned from school? You make some outlandish statements which leads me to believe education wasn't a priority!

@ grokling - Here's what a cheap non cited shot looks like - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Q8IDTTH7w

And here's another one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53ygseQDp_o

Oh and here's another one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FQkwYfqDnU

We missed Rob Howley, Gats, Stephen Jones, the IRB and the myriad of one eyed supporters concern then.

geoff332 says...

@grokling it's hypocritical for the simple reason we see - repeatedly - a complete lack of similar outrage when similarly acts are committed by one of your own.

The NZ media gets vociferously stuck in whenever one of the ABs is targeted by a cheap shot (e.g. Greyling, Higgenbottom, Quade Cooper). But they avoid hypocrisy by holding the the All Blacks to the same standards.

I certainly don't see the UK media acting with the same integrity. Remember a certain red card in the World Cup last year? Admittedly, that was a poorly judged tackle rather than an intentional stiff arm, but instead of the British media acknowledging a fair cop for a bad tackle, they took the stance that the ref ruined the game.

That's hypocrisy.

What Hore did was a disgrace. I am all for physicality but this was thuggish. Even the mighty Zinzan Brooke could not defend Hore. I think rugby bans should be matches and not weeks. I hope all his salary during his ban goes into NZ player welfare fund or something. Match fees should be taken away.

Imo players found guilty of foul play should have to forfeit salary as part of punishment on top of fines.

Every time I read something about this it gets worse. Tomorrow the title will read. Hore will receive purification and will be castrated for his heinous crimes. Hore screams out the word freedom! while being punished for his lawlessness.

jmangodcomplex, you're fooling no-one with your clumsy cleanout, would you accept it if you were told that's what all those cheap shots down the years were on Richie? I expect Hore mistook Davies for a baby seal.

porridge_time says...

Grow up it was a reckless clear that was missed. Hore has rightfully been cited and should be dealt with accordingly. Any suggestions of act of thuggery are stupid.

Rugbyfan01 says...

If he gets more than 3 weeks, then some of the thugs that have taken out Richie, have got off with a slap on the wrist.

But NH bans are run by the media anyway.

bigb6969 says...

When Andy Powell stiff armed Richie McCaw face they got a scrum the NZ response was far less strident for the NZ coaches for an act that was far worse. They problem we have is inconsistant punishments and press reaction.

The Dylan Hartley incident, was that in the same game has Mealamu got done for head butting (another attempted clean out gone wrong), result Mealamu cited and banned, Hartley zip. Here Andy Powell zip as well. In both cases the NZ incidents where arguebly reckless (Mealamu looked worse I am surprised the juduciary reduced his ban from 4 to 2 weeks) rather than the clear intent shown by Powell and Hartley in their acts. Hore has been cited and I expect good ban, no one is arguing that

@Spartacus @porridge_time What idiotic things to say. Hore's cheap shot was a disgraceful, cowardly act and he deserves to have the book thrown at him. It's not like he was provoked head on and things exploded into a fight. He took out a fellow player from behind like a dirty coward. Thankfully the NZ press are also outraged at this disgrace.

Quite how you think this is NH coaches and press being either hypocritical or sensationalist is beyond logic.

jmanngod says...

blah, blah blah Wales. Hore will be punished - but frankly it doesn't look like it was anything more than a clumsy cleanout (and fair enough no excuse). But 2 things: 1) the only disgrace is the state of Wale's Rugby (village idiots) and placing your locks in clear obstruction of the ruck. So get over it and move on.
