New Zealand's media expect "the book to be thrown at" Andrew Hore after the hooker was cited for an alleged strike on Wales forward Bradley Davies.
Hore appeared to catch Davies with a blow from behind early in Saturday's 33-10 Test victory over Wales, and has been cited by the International Rugby Board (IRB) for striking.
Veteran New Zealand rugby commentator Keith Quinn said Hore could expect a lenthy ban for the incident, which resulted in Wales second-row Davies being stretchered off the field and taken to hospital for precautionary examinations.
"Suddenly, just after the start of the game, there was this boneheaded act from Andrew Hore... I expect they'll throw the book at him," Quinn told Radio New Zealand.
Dominion Post rugby columnist Toby Robson said that with only one Test remaining in the All Blacks tour, against England on Saturday, Hore may as well pack his bags and return to New Zealand immediately.
"Whatever he was trying to achieve - let's give him the benefit of the doubt till his case is heard - the hooker must be handed a lengthy suspension," he wrote.
"It is an embarrassing situation for the New Zealand Rugby Union, with chief executive Steve Tew spending much of the past three weeks in Europe extolling the virtues of the All Blacks' brand."
The New Zealand Herald's Gregor Paul said: "Andrew Hore's act of stupidity will have confirmed in every Northern Hemisphere mind the long-held notion of the All Blacks as perennial thugs."

Wonder also why sides don't impose their own disciplinary process prior to hearings? It certainly shows an intent to punish foul play rather than try and get away with it. That should apply to all teams

Why bother with the word "alleged" I know there's a legal process to be followed in citing, but there's nothing alleged about it
Blocking someone's angle of run is not provocation enough to justify this, every time a ball goes in the air players run all sorts of angles to upset the chase, irritating yes

So i'm thinking 7 weeks is about right, same as Davis recieved for spear on D. Ryan in 6 nations. Both dangerous off the ball

The wide angle BBC camera shows the full story and why Hore thought that giving Davies a 'dig' was an appropriate response. Davies had been 'obstructing' Hore's run after Cruden had kicked the ball ahead. Davies had deliberately slowed down and changed direction - and clearly a fired up Andrew Hore was not about to be trifled with....
See more of this on - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN2PTQ_Utjs
Lyn Jones has made some interesting comments (on the above link) - but he is clearly living in the past "...whether the police get involved is another thing.... this is as big as what happened to Keith Murdoch in 1972.... and if the fellow has to be sent home because of this then it is not very sad.... it is deserved and it is a sad end to a very good career for Andrew Hore" .... The real saddness is of course that the referee(s) missed the punch that was thrown by Hore. The ONLY really meaningful sanction would have been the All Blacks playing the rest of the match with 14 men..... and then still beating Wales!
This will not signal the end of Andrew Hore's career - in fact I think that he will welcome the opportunity to rest and be back with the Highlanders in early 2013 fired up and ready to play. This has been an unfortunate episode in the rivalry between Wales and New Zealand.... but will be seen in years to come as a bit of a storm in a tea cup. Now on to the matter of John Ashworth and JPR.... well.... that was indeed real violence! (Bridgend vs All Blacks, 1978)

@trippa as always these things get a little one-eyed and I've got bored reading them all but most of the peopke calling for sanction from the NZRFU seem to be kiwi.
I've looked at the video and whilst Davies head did hit the ground and was truck by a knee (Hore's) whilst down there, the forearm was struck with force and one has to assume intent. I'm no medical expert (as I suspect you aren't either) so I have no idea which incident actually knocked the guy out but the fact remains that Hore's act was dangerous (the outcome will tell you that) and looked ( the citing panel will decide) intentional.
To those that suggest that Davies was in some way in the wrong by being offside, he looked to me like he was retreating, he wasn't moving towards the ruck or interfering with play in any form.
And finally the "no worse than....." comments are pointless (a) they don't justify Hore's actions, (b) The IRB have accepted a weakness around the consistency of their disciplinary systems and are looking to correct them and (c) If a player wasn't penalised, cited or was found not guilty then its probably because he hadn't really done anything wrong. Citing hearings are similar to court hearings - evidence is heard from medics, match officials and players and a decision (frequently by a Judge or senior Lawyer) is made based upon that evidence.
I'm pretty sure that PR posters who've seen it on You Tube don't get the opportunity to submit their opinions. Thankfully.

Hore should get what he deserves! He shouldn't have snapped like that but then again I'm not perfect ... so I can't say as much as others who are angels and support teams that are filled with angelic like players. Pity people didn't even notice McCaw's non thuggery act on that prop that was carried off! All the branding of ABs as thugs is unfair, McCaw, Carter
I am a humble Manu Samoan who hates losing to the blacks and once I used to think like most of my folks on this thread ... Hating the All Blacks at every step and looking out for every little thing they do, then one day I realised how dum I was, letting my anger at Manu Samoa's inability to beat the blacks for no other reason than, "we just weren't good enough!" Yeah we get close but there's no prize for scoring the same points they do in the second half when they're already miles ahead on the scoreboard.
Hore will forever be branded by many as the guy who pole-axed Davies but I wonder if all the hate would have come about if Wales won ... But they didn't and so the circus that got beaten by the Ozzies, then Argentina and us and now ABs continues! Oh better to have a whinge about reality, because I don't see Wales beating ABs anytime soon! Go Manu!

I love how the supporters on here from the most perfect of sporting nations South Africa, Wales and England are on here talking about lengthy bans etc etc when their own teams have been far worse in the past. Dean Greyling, Bakies Botha, Victor Matfield with his iron forearm cast on Kellehar's head, Simon Shaw, Dylan Hartley, Danny Grewcock, Andy Powell ... and on and on it could go and the Majority of these got a slap on the wrist.
Hore didn't punch him or intend to knock him out and if he hadn't been knocked out with the contact on the ground and accidental knee after the actual clumsy clean out no one would have said much at all.
Hore Deserves a ban. YES. But 4 weeks is in line with recent striking charges (and Dean Greyling got 2 weeks for a forarm to the Jaw which was an actual attempt to knock a player out) and would be fair.
As for those who are saying that he should also get a ban from the NZRFU or an assault charge. ..get a life.

I can't believe the amount of troll-feeding simpletons in these pages! The BokX trolls must be drooling and rejoicing at all the attention they get each time they copy-paste their usual mommy-cry.
Just because some cranium wants to divert attention from their own team's thugs or from the fact they almost got beaten by mediocre paddy, scot and pom sides doesn't mean one has to pay attention to their moaning, geez...

Colvin - if ever the ABs nee a good PR man you should apply for the job. We do not need appologists for thuggery in our game. It was a cowardly act by a thug who also had a big smirk on his face after the event. Shameful.

If the judiciary wants to be consistent, Hore should get about as much as Greyling got for his direct elbow to the head of a defenseless McCaw. That would be 2 weeks...
Not enough I hear? I happen to agree, Greyling got off easy.
They will either be accurate and inconsistent and give at least 4-6 weeks. Or consistent and inaccurate with 2-3 weeks. It's the judiciary's own fault that whatever they do now will be seen as a farse...

@Greendip: you mean the pot calling the kettle All Black.
I would like to see the video. Did Evans do anything during the haka? Some said BOD "dissing" the Haka caused his spear tackle. Unlikely perhaps, but if so on both occasions then let's ban the haka. If ABs can not take no contact ribbing just because its a precious dance and have to assault players in retaliation then ban it. Any videos of the Welsh players through the haka?

Can't believe Hanson trying to defend this act of thuggary. If he played for a team I supported (at any level) I would be very embarrassed. I would like to see the NZRU impose a ban on the player themselves regardless of the outcome of the citing hearing.

I'd like to know how much damage was done. As a neutral I'd call it reckless and clumsy. The risk is that the whole thing will be blown out of all proportion by people who are just jealous of NZ's success. Listening to the BBC commentary it just sounded like yet another example of Jonathan Davies getting nasty when his team starts to lose. then you had eddie butler throwing the stupidest more ungracious comment, "NZ should be a joy to watch but for some reason they always leave a nasty taste in your mouth." Thats not New Zealand Eddie that's you being a bad loser.
Mind NZ, if people refuse to learn from example as far as your style of rugby goes then, you're on a winner, aren't you. :)

You have to laugh at the twisted logic of Bok Avenger and all the idiotic suggestions he makes. He is not known for getting his facts right because that scrambled brain he has is full of conspiracy theories. Geez Bok you really think that Paddy has that kind of influence at the IRB? For hell's sake he is a referee and nobody I mean nobody likes referees. If I really want to troll how come your blind countryman failed to see what was happening in front of him. Stiil he has an excuse he is a Saffa and we no how blind and myopic they can be Bok don't we? Secondly for someone who is an expert on all matters IRB its funny how you believe Bray is the chief referee for them. Sorry to disappoint you but he is only in charge of SANZA appointments. It is Jutge, the Frenchman, who is the chief at the IRB amazing you, the noted expert on the IRB, missed that fact. The best had to be Richie McCaw the victim of an eye gouge by Rougerie is now the perpetrator of an assault on Rougerie . Really Bok what sort of demented, twisted person are you?. Just like you to remember that the citing officer at the time in the Brian O'Drscoll incident deemed there was no case to answer packed his bags after that decision and fled back to South Africa. It never got to the judicial committee because a Saffa decided there was no case to answer. It was following that non decision by a countryman of yours that the rules on the tackle were strengthened. Still we dont expect facts from you Bok because your name says it all.
There is no doubt of my views, Andrew Hore deserved to be cited and deserves a lengthy ban, which Im sure he will get. There is no place for that type of play in the game at all. Again I ask why did he do it ? He is not noted for that kind of play. He has committed the crime, as they say, and must now pay the time. Unlike Bok I dont condone or make excuses for this kind of action.
