No Carter for All Blacks

Ruled out: Dan Carter

New Zealand fly-half Dan Carter has been ruled out of Saturday's clash with Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

Test rugby's leading points-scorer suffered an ankle injury in training at the University of Glamorgan on Thursday and was declared unfit after undergoing a scan at a Cardiff hospital.

"Gutted not to be playing," said Carter on his Twitter account.

The 30-year-old, who has won 93 caps and never been on the losing side against Wales, was named in the starting line-up after being an unused replacement in last week's 42-10 victory over Italy.

Aaron Cruden, who has not lost in 18 games for the world champions, will now replace Carter, with Beauden Barrett joining the bench.

New Zealand are bidding to extend their unbeaten run over the Welsh which stretches back to 1953.

All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw was disappointed to lose Carter but is confident Cruden will be able to fill his shoes.

"It is something you can't control. It is disappointing for Dan, but the next guy will come in and we will try to give him some good ball to operate with," McCaw said.

"Aaron has played a few Tests, some pretty big games. Dan is a pretty good footballer, 90-something Tests. He is hard to replace, but we've got to get on and have belief in the next guys."

New Zealand (revised): 15 Israel Dagg, 14 Cory Jane, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Ma'a Nonu, 11 Julian Savea, 10 Aaron Cruden, 9 Aaron Smith, 8 Kieran Read, 7 Richie McCaw (c), 6 Liam Messam, 5 Sam Whitelock, 4 Luke Romano, 3 Owen Franks, 2 Andrew Hore, 1 Tony Woodcock.
Replacements: 16 Dane Coles, 17 Wyatt Crockett, 18 Charlie Faumuina, 19 Brodie Retallick, 20 Victor Vito, 21 Piri Weepu, 22 Beauden Barrett, 23 Ben Smith.

Sincero - Aaron Cruden in fact holds the world test record for having NEVER been on a losing side in his international career. Quite different to your interpretation. Others may have 18 consecutive wins, but have played in a losing side earlier on in their careers.

'The 30-year-old, who has won 93 caps and never been on the losing side against Wales...' Fascinating fact. Name one All Black who is currently playing that has lost to Wales.

'Aaron Cruden, who has not lost in 18 games for the world champions, will now replace Carter'... intriguing, however, considering New Zealand are on a 19-game unbeaten run, that'd have to be true for a fair whack of the squad as well.

There are stats and a certain aura undoubtedly surrounding the All Blacks, but also a fair ould amount of bullshit. Give it a rest!

Interesting how Trinuts considers his jokes to be funny. As many say, there is a fine line between humour and insults. Sorry Trinuts you just crossed it. I think it would be a good suggestion that you read and reread the comments made in the post by latin as he says it all.

Now we have that Gosper as CEO of the IRB who has made his inauspicious start with his rank, some say drunken tweet. Watch for more, as this man has a history of inappropriate comments. He was taken to task and put down by a former OZ Attorney General. There will be more he probably had John ( Ive been sacked again) O'Neill screaming in his ear.

@Trinuts - It's just not on for men to joke about periods, you should know better.

@BokAvenger - And how many games have the AB's lost since Paddy & Bryce left?

___________

Guess it just shows the calibre of Carter when he has a guy like Cruden coming in for him & it's considered a big loss.

I hate seeing an AB's lineup without the master at 10.

jnmanngod - ain't that the truth. NH refs, in general, think they are the most important person on the park, constantly looking for penalties. They don't seem fit enough to last a full on game anyway so they need the breaks. Strangely the NH crowd seem to like these stop / start games; being respectfully silent at those endless goal kicks. Its also the reason they need SH inside backs. Their own guys get no practice.

NZ ABs seem to be taking a leaf off cricket strategy page and building a team full of "ALL ROUNDERS". Read & Vito can play #8 or flanker, Both Barret and Smith can play fly half, center or full back. Even McCaw is adequate at #8. Both Franks and Faumunia can pack on either side.

Pretty soon other countries will try to adopt this strategy; how successful they would be is to be seen in the future.

Trinuts: "Carter is like a tampon, in one week out for three." Would have been mildly funny if it weren't such ridiculous atttempt to mock the greatest flyhalf in world rugby.

But if that were indeed the case, I wonder what your favorite buddy Quade Cooper would be. On second thought, let's not even go there.

@Trinuts... luckily that 3 is enough to keep NZ powering away at the top.

After watching the Maori game today it was made clear why UK rugby is behind. The whole philosophy of referees is backwards. Rather than facilitate the game they are too busy finding reasons to slow it down or stop it all together. Absolutely woeful display - and both teams suffered for it.
