Mc Caw would be perfect for Munster, both he and the team have the same attitude towards the game (i.e. get away with murder)

The problem and pity with Ireland is we are not going to see them play to the potential they have because the Irish coach is about 6 years behind the modern game and the style Ireland should be playing, his out of date tactics will ensure that this strong All Black squad will not be beaten. In a nutshell, the Irish coach is actually not up to utilizing the talent he has at his disposal within the irish squad. It's a pity really, because even in the absence of O' Connell, we could, with a better coach, probably give the AB's a run for their money, but it's not going to happen 3-0!

People need to remember that this is a train on squad of 35. It is also important to note that there is a new coaching regime. The experience and knowledge in All Black systems gained in winning the world cup are vital. When bringing in new halfbacks for example, it is only sensible to have the halfback who became NZ's go to guy in the squad to impart this knowledge. Why waste 8 years of experience. Whether Weepu makes the final selection will depend on his results and importance to the group at these training sessions rather than his looks.
It seems to me that the selectors are taking a long term view while continuing to use the intellectual property available.
Smart thinking in my view.

Agreed. Matt Todd is the obvious heir to the 7 jersey and Richie is most likely going to have more screws put in his body at some point as he just doesn't want to let the black jersey go.

Lookit, if ye don't want Matt Todd down in NZ we (Ireland) would be more than happy to take him off your hands! We haven't any proper sevens. (Or McCaw could join Munster, just a thought).
MATT TODD??!!

TJ Perenara is possibly NZ's pick of this SR.
Somebody may be missing, still an excellent squad.
Weak (if we can call weak) could be back row, since it would not be easy to replace Kaino and McCaw.
It would be interesting to see where Hansen will play DC.

Scan, after a weekend where two top NZ sides were beaten at the breakdown, yours is a very valid question.
Also Piri Wepu?

Would it be ridiculous to suggest a recall for Jason Eaton on current form? I think he's been in great form lately. Would it also be ridiculous to suggest that the second row and back row look a little lightweight? All very athletic and I'm sure very fit and strong but without Thorn and Kaino they look like they're lacking someone to do some big, direct carries other than Read unless the props are going to do it all.

Excellent Squad! Of course there are some players that are very unlucky on missing out but what can you do when you have an abundance of talent to choose from.
The onus is now certainly on those established players who haven't performed during the Super Rugby. Looking forward to the test matches next month.

I don't think we should even bother getting on the plane. :-).
I'm strangely looking forward to the matches, victory over the AB's is the one thing that has eluded Ireland(maybe this time), we will all keep our fingers crossed on O'Connell and O'Driscoll being fit.

freuan still hasn't done enough (still has defensive lapses); hosea gear or guildford likely to get callup given injury to kahuiu; for the young blokes who didn't make it, maybe the selectors felt it was too soon! Some young blokes are mature beyonf their years, some aren't

Now for the fun part, working out which 5 get cut when the 30-man squad for the Ireland series is named... based on a 17 forward/ 13 back split you'd have to assume that it'll a prop, a lock, a halfback, a 5/8 & a midfield/ wing/ fullback, but also that someone (Fruean?) will come into the 35 for Kahui when it's confirmed that he's gone for the season.
My money's on Faumuina or Tameifuna (can either play hooker? If so they're in), Romano, Ellis or TK-B, Barrett & whoever takes Kahui's spot (on the basis that if they couldn't make the initial 35, what chance do they have of making the 30).
Perhaps we could have Trinats2's thoughts on what must be to him the shock ommission of "future AB star. For sure" Arizona Taumololo - once he's sobered up from Sunday's post-match of course.

It doesn't really matter who the AB's send our, we're still going to get murdered. It'd nice if Kidders realized this is the best test to bring a young squad, but there's two chances of that happening...

Surprised Weepu has made the training squad given his form this season and that A.Taylor and Perenara- Fruern arnt myself ,then again i guess SH and co think they have enough class players in those positions .Guilford i can understand him not being selected given his troubles but no H.Gearimo thats a wierd decision

I don't think Rene Ranger expects to get picked any more, poor bloke. I'd love to find out what terrible crime the Gears committed as well, there couldn't be a pair of brothers more unlucky not to get more caps. I assume Freuan could be coming in for Kahui fairly soon but it is still baffling that he's never had so much as a run off the bench. Good to see Ellison rewarded again. Surprised no Matt Todd but maybe Cane has the edge currently this season

Maybe the selectors should have named a squad of 45 i.e., 3 teams of 15 each so that many of the names sent by viewers would have been incorporated.
Interstingly from the World Cup winning 15, kaino is missing so that is at least one place on offer.
