Morné Steyn: Moving on?

According to a report in South Africa, fly-half Morné Steyn is to leave the Bulls for a Top 14 contract at the end of the 2013 Super Rugby campaign.

Eyewitness News Sport has revealed via Steyn's agent Johan van Greune that the former first-choice Springbok playmaker will be moving on.

Steyn, 28, has played 42 times for his country and Van Greune revealed that the back's international career is not yet over despite the switch to France.

"Morné has spoken to Heyneke, they have discussed this. Obviously it is difficult to make commitments from Heyneke's side. That's one of the reasons he chose to go to France. It does open the door for him to play for the Springboks in the future," Van Greune is quoted as saying.

As a Bok fan i would like to say thank you to Morne for his service and loyalty. This paves the way for Lambie and Goosen to fight for the 10 jersey. We have the makings of a very good Bok team if the correct players are selected. That discussion is for another day. Today its about Morne. I salute you. Thank you for easing the 12 years of pain that was inflicted on us by the Lions with your trusty boot. By all accounts from reading Smit's autobiography he was not sure who was gonna kick (you or Frans), and you made the decision easier by taking the ball off him. Good man.

I think he would fit Northampton's perfectly. He's the sort of player that could push them up from a good side to a very good side.

As I mentioned in the similar report about Andries Bekker I predict a move to Stade Francais. They've got to bring in some big name talent in order to get back to where they believe they deserve to be in the pecking order.

Probably the best for him and the Bulls. Fouche looks a more than able replacement, and Morne can make a few Euros to see him through.

Makes sense. He's not the popular choice at flyhalf for thespringboks anymore so why not go abroad and get his retirement fund sorted. With his style of pay a lot of french clubs will want him. This does add to the pressure on the french for developing a decent 10 with so many foreign stars dominating position at club level
