Boks call up Van der Merwe

Heinke van der Merwe try Leinster vs Ulster Heineken Cup Final

Called up: Heinke Van Der Merwe

Heinke van der Merwe has been called up for South Africa's matches this November.

The Leinster prop was named as Heyneke Meyer's 32nd squad member earlier in the week ahead of Brian Mujati and placed on standby.

Van der Merwe joined Leinster in June 2010 as a replacement for CJ van der Linde, and has since gone on to win two Heineken Cups in two years with the province.

His first and only previous cap came in 2007 against Wales.

@Willy, A little research would show you that Mujati is capped 12 times by the Boks.

@ 5Lock4ward

Nothing do with the fact that Van der Merwe is a far better player than Mujati.

Or the fact that Mujati is from Zimbabwe and not South Africa.....

@papachinzo

Completely agree Hagan and Sexton had a very good game in the scrums against ospreys, also rate Jack McGrath and Martin Moore highly.

Hmmm...another non-English international not being made available by Northampton. We can now add Mujati to the list including Manoa and Murray in recent memory. Not to mention the Van Niekerk and Sheppard ordeals. Apparently Northampton is not the place to advance one's international career unless one is English.

I'm happy about this, With Healy Ross Bent Cronin Strauss and now Van der Merwe gone, it means Leinster youthful 3rd choice front row (and possibly Ireland's future) McGrath Sexton and Hagan will get some game time!!

They destroyed the Ospreys last weekend, I can't wait to see more of them.
