Weir enjoys Scotland responsibility

22nd June 2014 10:56

Maturing: Duncan Weir

Scotland fly-half Duncan Weir feels more comfortable taking responsibility for his side after winning Friday's Test against Argentina.

Weir was unable to convert a late try from replacement Henry Prygos but came back by landing the 78th-minute penalty which kept Scotland unbeaten in June with a 21-19 victory in Cordoba.

"I feel I've taken more responsibility in the team, I carry myself a bit differently from when I first joined the squad," Weir told BBC Scotland.

"As a ten you need to carry that responsibility on your shoulders.

"I'm enjoying it now and it's about fine tuning what I say and when I say it and bossing the team around."

Scotland will round off a busy month of Test fixtures by facing South Africa this weekend, with the squad touching down on Sunday and three more replacements in Geoff Cross, Tyrone Holmes and Adam Ashe are all due to arrive later from the UK.

Weir believes the momentum from defeating the USA, Canada and Argentina will stand the squad in good stead for what will be a tough challenge against the number two ranked side in the world.

"Going in with three wins is terrific. It's credit to all of the hard work put in by the guys," added Weir.

"It [the win over Argentina] wasn't picture perfect but creating a winning culture is certainly a great trait.

"We can learn from our mistakes in the first half and hopefully bring in periods of that second half.

"South Africa are a big brute of a side, they have a huge pack and are always very physical."
