Former Scotland forward Jason White has confirmed his retirement, ending speculation of a possible return to Glasgow.
White, who played 77 Tests for Scotland including 19 as captain, has been without a club since French giants Clermont Auvergne did not renew his contract a few months ago.
The 34-year-old former Sale flank was strongly linked to a move back to Glasgow, but when talks of a return to his first professional club fell through he decided to call it quits.
"That's me finished," White told HeraldScotland.
"I won't be playing professional rugby again. We've just had a little girl, so I'm on daddy duty for a while, which is great.
"I was certainly keen on a move back to Glasgow and there were signs of interest at their end and a lot of talk in the press about it. Unfortunately, it never quite happened. I would have liked to go there, but it wasn't to be.
"Personally, I certainly want to carry on doing something in rugby, although I'm not really sure at what level. I would love to coach, but I look at the professional level and I think I don't want to sacrifice my family life to do that."

One of my all time favorites. I'd love to see him break into coaching. Perhaps a spot as a forwards coach w/ Glasgow or Edinburgh.

In his prime he was one of the best in the business, such a destructive tackler, will remember him most as part of the best best sale team ever to have been in 2006 playing alonside names such as Robinson, Cueto, Seveali'i, Ripol, Hodgson, Wigglesworth,Foden,Sheridan, Bruno, Fernandez Lobbe, Lund, Chabal.

Excellent player, really physical, great tackler and fantastic work rate. A leader on the field. I missed his name in the Scottish line ups so many times.
