Backing the skipper: Mike Blair

Scotland scrum-half Mike Blair insists whoever is handed the captaincy for the November internationals will have the full support of the national squad.

Ross Ford has been skipper for the past eight games but with flank Kelly Brown tipped to take over, a change in leadership could be coming.

Head coach Andy Robinson has already told his players of his decision, which will be made public on the final day of the St Andrews training camp.

"When you're young you think of playing for Scotland, but the honour of leading a side out first is a massive thing, but it's a massive job as well," 83-cap Blair told Press Association Sport.

"There's a lot of people watching you, a lot of onus is on how you deal with certain situations, the decisions you make on the pitch as well.

"Whoever is captain will get a lot of support from guys around them.

"There are guys within the team, within the squad, who have plenty of caps and experience.

"It's not so much a situation now where it's just one person. It is a group of people. There are multiple people involved in the leadership of the side."

If the hard-working Brown does become captain, he'll be Scotland's fifth leader in two years.

You can't judge Scottish rugby based on Blair's decision to play in the ProD2. You't forgetting that Scotland only recently managed to defeat the 2nd ranked team in the world and defeat a good Samoan side in VERY oppressive conditions... something the Welsh probably wouldn't have done. I think Scotland will do well in the Autumn. While they'll lose to NZ, I think they'll bounce back to make it back-to-back wins against South Africa(beat them two years ago with a much weaker team) and finish off with a solid win against Tonga.

The fact that Mike Blair decided to go play 2nd tier rugby in France shows the state of Scottish rugby at the moment which is an utter shame.
