Of course his line breaks impressed, defences are hard to break down so smashing them has some appeal. But that is just a small part of a centre's role. Give me a play maker, a good passer, a solid defender with a good envelopping tackle, some who can put boot to ball if they have to and you can keep your bulldozers. Sorry Bastareaud you are long way off the complete package.

Bastareaud didn't prove to be more than a bulldozer in last year's tournament. His abilities to defend and pass are yet to be seen. He doesn't seem to be an all-round outside centre. Bring Mermoz or another specialist until Bastareaud gains experience, fitness and capacity to sacrifice.

Encouraging words from Lièvremont in respect to Mathieu Bastareaud and Lois Picamoles (highly rated in New Zealand after 2008 historic win) . That said David Marty, Dimitiri Yachvili and Damien Trallie preference to Florian Fritz, Julien Dupuy, and Julien Malzieu respectively is shocking and puzzling. France must convincingly win the Six Nations if they stand any chance to secure the World Cup.

The French public will expect another Grand Slam in 2011 & atleast a World Cup semi-final appearance from their team. Lievremont will have learnt more from the defeat against Australia than any previous game as national coach.
