I mean no disrespect to DK or irish fans ,and i beleive,theres merit in what @Norm has said regarding the Kidney position.That he maynot be the rugby coach to take Ireland to the next RWC may also be true.Given his reluctance to blood young talant consistantly.May i add that i personnally think R.Deans ,would make a great coach for Ireland,not aftaid to blood talant ,and plays a good style of rugby ,that plays to his teams strengths.Given his constant lambasting in the Australiain media ect,perhaps he would relish an oppotunity to coach a side ,with quite a wealth of talant comming though , and established class players rather than scraping for players in Australia.If DK goes at the end of his contract ,Deans may also be available.The question is will there be enough time to get Ireland going

Top answer Leinster Blue and good state of the nation, albeit I think you are harsh on Kidney regarding the delivery of the Grand Slam, EOS had ample opportunities to do it and missed many, Kidney got them over the line.
Munster arent the force they were and Ulster with a bot if depth and belief will be champions again in the next couple of years. From what I hear of Rob Penneys ambitions for Munster, I am excited by the coming years for Irish rugby, which as you say is in a transition, Kidney has not embraced the transition, many mistake that for parochial bias, I genuinely dont think it is, I think it is stratregic bias, he knows the Munster and as he showed in his brief tenurehe couldnt do that at Leinster. Penney seems to have plans to open up the Munster game too and I think that it can only be good in terms of yoking provincial power into the national set up!
Excited about the next few years, Mike Ruddock also doing excellent work. Great to see Hanrahan on the JRWC player of the tournament shortlist!
Massive respect for Kidney but strategically not the man to deliver on all the potential we have, then again I dont think Schmidt is either. Not that tactically he cant it is a question of having someone there with none of the provincial history or baggage.
Conor O Shea anyone, this guy has a pedigree for transitioning talent and is earning his front line coaching stripes at a rapid pace! (Graham Henry in the background)

@Ripzy007 - don't think there is turmoil, but Irish rugby is beginning to transition... Munster are not the force they once were - and that is in no way showing any disrespect for their amazing achievements...Leinster are the dominant force in Ireland at the moment and Ulster are probably where we were about 5 years ago...from my own perspective, the issue with Irish rugby (and the fans biggest gripe) is that we have a coach who got us the grand slam 3 years ago and then just seemed to run out of ideas (and even that could be argued that the team that Eddie O'Sullivan built peaked and Kidney got the credit)... so, he has kept with the same tried and tested since then and it is not working (with the notable exceptions of Australia in the world cup and last Saturday in Christchurch)...
what a lot of Irish fans would like to see is some of the raw talent being chucked in at the deep end...if you look around the 4 provinces there are some really great youngsters who will not get a look in if Kidney continues with his existing selection policy...personally, I would love to have seen Kidney blood the new talent during the 6N campaign - in other words, stuff the results, lets bring the youngsters through...the debate about ROG Vs Sexton will always rumble as long as they both are up for selection - both are excellent, but bring radically different approaches to the game...

Well said, Ronan O'Gara.
The journalist who put this line of questioning to him was trying to beat up an innocuous comment. Steve Hansen might have been more guarded in his words, but I doubt he was intentionally disrespectful.
O'Gara deserves a lot of credit for responding in the way he did.

Agree with @tha_mai - this appears to be a little over the top. I don't think Steve Hansen intended it as a "jibe" at all, and it doesn't appear as if O'Gara interpreted it that way either.
So not sure how this got twisted out of context, must have been a slow news day or something.

I personally think Hansen is correct, but how I would love to be proven wrong. Ireland rarely build on good performances; we play emotional rugby, and what happened last weekend was a product of the previous hammering. The humiliation of that beating, followed by the Kiwi press driving the point home provided the emotional stimulus for the last performance. I am not sure that the present emotion of utter disappointment is the same catalyst. But as I said I really really wish to be proven wrong.

A sensiable response from ROG,and as shown by@tha_mai ,the headline is out of context .Also Sexton at 12 this Saturday isnt a bad option ,as it allows Ireland to change the point of attack ect.Madigan and Jackson should also be explored with Sexton at 10 and 12 .Like England with Wilinson and Catt

I have said for a while I think he will break through in terms of his consistency composure and confidence at test level, that appears to have happened and stranger things have happened than him show his class to the world come this saturday. He needs to stop telegraphing that wrap around though :)

Sexton is our future at 10, have believed so for a long time but I cant get over how he embraced the 12 channel on saturday, we saw glimpses in the 6N and I cant help but think this can be explored further. You and I shared thoughts on this before and before you jump to assumptions I am not suggesting ROG as 10 for the foreseeable ( for saturday worth thinking about though, although weakening 10 to strengthening our defence at 12 is merely inviting a change in the point of attack) however there has to be mileage in trying out a Sexton 12 and alternative like Madigan or Jackson at 10 at the same time. This would give us options and open up a world of potential for inventivness on the park.
