Hore branded "a disgrace" by Wales

New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been called "a disgrace" by Wales assistant coach Rob Howley after striking Bradley Davies in Saturday's Test in Cardiff.

The incident forced Davies to leave the field in the opening minutes of the match and has been widely condemned by fans and the media after video content of the incident circulated online.

Hore's blindside shot on the Cardiff second row has been cited, with the hearing on Wednesday.

"What Hore did has got no place on a rugby field, as far as I am concerned," said Howley.

"It was an absolute disgrace. He has been cited, and I am sure it won't be taken too lightly.

"Situations and incidents like that have no place on the rugby field, and it had a huge impact on the game.

"You don't traditionally think the All Blacks want to do things like that. They are a good enough team not to so we were very surprised by the actions of the player.

"Bradley has severe concussion and cannot play this weekend.

"It was pretty obvious that something untoward had happened.

"Whether the referee should be able to go to the TMO in those situations is something for the IRB to decide."

@porridge_time - I see you've already received a negative reply but I think you are spot on mate. It happens in every sport & nation from players, coaches, fans, & media that get caught up in the emotion of the outcome.

______

I've got to give people the benefit of the doubt though because I originally thought that it was a very dirty act myself after seeing the couple of replays provided during the match. After watching it again on youtube though, I've changed my mind.

After freeze framing the replays it actually shows that it was nothing more than a reckless cleanout. He didn't intend to injure Davies, he was just frustrated that Davies was blocking his running line & thus commited an over aggressive cleanout from behind

His arm went around his shoulder & maybe a little around the neck as he pulled Davis to the ground. There was not a fist or a swinging arm & this part of the incident did not cause any damaged.

The part that hospitalised Davis was an unintentional knee to the head brought about by Hore's foward momentum as he is forcing Davies to the ground. It knocks him out cold

It was very reckless & in my opinion deserves a suspension of around 2 - 4 weeks but it should not be made out to be the 'despicable act of foul play' that it wasn't.

I wish Davies a speedy recovery, head injuries are never pleasant.

I rather enjoyed Andrew Hores close line of Davies, it was classic. Kinda reminds me of the pro wrestling. The Allblacks were clearly more physical than the Walers who have done nothing but whine and complain about the poor bloke Davies and his tender head that took a little bang. This is the kind of physicality we Southy's play against rough teams like the wobbly's and Saffa's, if you northerners can't handle it maybe you should join the powder puff football league here in the states. By the way it's for girls.

Plain & simple the act was gutless. You don't hit someone from behind. Want to vent your frustrations? Be a real man, turn him around and confront him face to face!!! Then smack him...............ha ha

So now it's clear what happened per the BBC clip. Davies ran about 25 metres deliberately blocking Hore from following up Cruden's kick and in the end Hore whacked him.

So Davies brought it on himself by cheating.

Still Hore shouldn't have whacked Davies notwithstanding the provocation and he will be suspended.

Fortunately all of this nonsense can be put behind us in a day or two..... However, Wales still have the challenge of resurrecting their Autumn Series with a win against the Wallabies.... Now this is the real challenge for the Men in Red.

I also wish Bradley Davies a speedy recovery from the illegal nudge that he received on Saturday. This was an appalling shot from Andrew Hore and he fully deserves the 'book' that is likely to be thrown at him. Is his All Black career over? He has certainly played a significant role in the success of the All Blacks over the last few years.

Hore stuffed up! That is a given but then to say its unforgivable. That's unhealthy ... because holding onto grudges will only make you blind about your own failings.

The joke of the year is to suggest Davies leaving the field had a 'huge impact on the game.' Ha, he maybe have been a player of some kind but to suggest he would have changed the outcome of the game or even increase the score line by 10 points is a bit rich. Ha! ... It 'had a huge impact on the game.' Ha! Howler mate in case you're head is so far in ..., Davies is no Richie McCaw ... The difference among many is that McCaw doesn't have a glass jaw! Ha!

Lets get some things straight.

1. It wasn't a punch

2. The swinging arm was designed to get him out of the way not knock him out

3. He was not knocked out by the arm but by the fact he hit the ground hard and then subsequently got an accidental knee to the head

4. Hore Deserves a ban but if there is any consistancy it should only be 2 weeks as this is exactly in line with what Dean Greyling got on his deliberate forearm/elbow strike on a defenceless Richie McCaw (which no-one in NH cared about because it didn't involve them)

5. The NH media (and now NZ media has joined in) is blowing this well out of proportion in order to unsettle the All Blacks and distract from their own teams shotcomings

To add to this what would have happened if Hore had hit him lower on the point of the shoulder and he had fallen down and subsequently got knocked out??

Would this have also been called a thug act?? After all it would still have been from behind ??

Cleaning out a player who is not facing you happens in every game of Rugby.

And I will leave you with this list of players and then come back to me with the amount of outcry sorrounding each one and I can bet it will be less then this:

Simon Shaw

Andy Powell

Scott Higginbotham

Dean Greyling

Quade Cooper

Dylan Hartley

Jamie Heaslip

All players who have recently acted in a unfair way towards an All Black Opponant and at least 3 of them had no resulting penalty and 2 of them got off with leniant sentences. And at least 4 of them were far worse then this incident with striking of a player trapped in a ruck.

@grokling.....it's hypocritical because when your boys undertake similar nonsense (and Hore's actions were nonsense and stupid), the media all seems to go a little quiet up there!! As many have said about the Hartley/Powell on McCaw incidents....where was all your bleating about justice and no place in the game for such things!?

I'm sure Hore regrets his actions and will no doubt pay a high price for his stupidity (probably too high given all the bleating from up north), but you NH folk should be embarrassed at turning this whole thing into a witch hunt to try and paper over the fact that Wales and co are simply not good enough!! Bradley Davies is an average lock at best and to even try and pretend having him on the pitch would have made any difference to the final outcome is laughable!!

Many NZers have rightfully condemned Hore's actions, but you girls up north are like a bunch of rabid dogs....get over yourselves and try to focus on actually bettering yourselves to reach higher standards, rather than trying to drag everybody else down to your level!!

@BokAvenger....ek sien jy bly nog steeds 'n doos!!

@7redcards. Yep, I think you are right about Hore. He's generally a good sort of bloke but I agree he will look back and have some big regrets.

All the old incidents keep rolling out about Richie etc. One that hasn't was Martin Johnsons king hit from behind on Justin Marshall a few years back. Anyway, they are all pretty bad. Hore to go for 8 weeks +.

Interesting how when Davies is running and blocking Hore and changing his line to make sure he obstructs him (view the wide angle) and then gets taken out it is acceptable but when McCaw is (according to NH punters) lying all over the ball and 'gets what he deserves' in terms of cheap shots to the head, eye gouges (which appear to be an acceptable part of the game in the NH (France and Ireland v NZ anyone?).

Hore's shot was unacceptable don't get me wrong, and it needs to be cut from the game. But the IRB need to start being a bit more consistent with their citings and rulings.

Then again, Richie is just a hard bastard and gets up and plays on even after taking numerous cheap shots. Doesn't need a week off like Davies.

Phill_Moore says...

Yeah, the Welsh are right to keep on moaning, Hore should have been cited for crying out loud!

Oh wait...

Hore had a brain explosion all right, everybody already agreed, so it seems suspicious to stick with that and "forget" the fact that your "Grand Slam" team got an almighty spanking and the game was over as a contest way before half-time. How convenient!

And then Gatland starts talking about how he'd like to return to super rugby, aaha...

@grokling - watch the video again! It is clear that there is a blow to Davies from behind - but I really dont think Hore was trying to take the player out i.e. cheap shot. Too much hysteria.

Trader2 says...

I just looked at the BBC wide angle shot and Davies must have saw it coming as he was running brilliant interference on Hore so obviously had his eyes wide opened. I have no problems with that tactic, although illegal, guys will try and run interference if they can get away with it, but when doing that you will always expect a reaction, and Hore¿s was clumsy at best. Not sure if that footage will help Hore but it could be viewed as mitigating so 8 weeks minus 1 for always previously being a nice bloke and 1 week for Davies provocation. I have to say the hysteria from the British commentators and press is a bit over the top. Some pratt on BBC (not sure who he was) was saying that this should be treated aka Keith Murdoch and that Hore should be sent home, get a grip Murdoch was sent home for an off the field incident (details of which were very cloudy) and only because the NZRU and management were weak at the time and were pressured by the home unions, an act that subsequently destroyed the man's life. Yes Hore should be suspended but it was not a hanging offence.

Thinking of Keith Murdoch also makes me think of Quade Cooper, although quite different personalities and it is different times perhaps those of us (me included) and the NZ rugby public should lighten up on him. Sport is for the enjoyment of the participants and at the higher level for the public who were never good enough to play at that level, it is not meant to destroy the lives of those players. Perhaps it is a little late for QC¿s rugby career and that is a shame, he needed good advice and counsel and it looks like he didn't get it. Anyway enough of this philosophising it must be near the end of the year.
