The "ultimate sacrifice" is not leaving Santorini for a test but, rather, having to live with his wife reminding him for the rest of his life that he ditched her on their (her) honeymoon. When he's 90 years old and has forgotten where the game was played and who won, she will be torturing him (because women never forget....).

Interesting the trivialisation of the expression "ultimate sacrifice". Not sure that missing a Greek holiday is the hugest sacrifice a six figure incomed professional sportsman could make.
