Debbie Jevans: Starts next month

Debbie Jevans, the director of sport for LOCOG, has been appointed as the new chief executive of England Rugby 2015.

Jevons will start in the post next month and bring with her experience of delivering the successful London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the company set up to deliver the 2015 World Cup.

She replaces Paul Vaughan, who officially stepped down from leading the body by "mutual consent" earlier on Wednesday.

"Debbie is hugely respected across sport and rugby will benefit from her experience in leading large teams to deliver major sporting events to a global audience," said ER 2015 Chairman Andy Cosslett.

"Armed with this knowledge and pedigree across many facets of multi sport events we are delighted Debbie has decided to join us.

"Her London Olympic and Paralympic Games' experience will be vital as we look forward to hosting the Rugby World Cup."

APV1 - what you describe is very similar to the 2011 RWC in NZ. I don't expect the 2015 one will be any different.

I think this year's Olympics and Paralympics have been superb. I was lucky enough to go with my family and it was so well organised and we had a wonderful -literally a "once in a lifetime" - opportunity to be part of it.

But...

LOCOG screwed over many, many small businesses with their Draconian and fiercly contested copywrite nonsense. There are stories of bakers baking a loaf in the shape of the Olympic rings and being told to take them off their display. hairdressers being told that they couldn't use the Rings in their salon window. And rings of sausages being banned:

Any mention of "London 2012", Olympics, etc was jumped upon by lawyers and threats were made to small businesses who "flaunted the rules".

Two friends of mine have a very small business. They are supplying their product to the Olympic Village. But they are not, for many years to come, allowed to advertise this or use it for marketing. We're not talking just for the duration of the games - you can understand the main sponsors wanting to get the exposure - but for years afterwards.

So I hope the same doesn't happen with the RWC 2015. With all of us suffering economically, we need to use the opportunities in any way we can.

Debbie Jevans - congratulations on your appointment, but please don't let there be more officious nonsense.
