Future unclear: James O'Connor

Former Wallaby playmaker James O'Connor's manager insists he has not signed with Toulon and remains in negotiations with "several European clubs."

O'Connor, who is at London Irish until the end of the Premiership season, has expressed his desire to play in the 2015 World Cup, which would require him to play Super Rugby next year.

Reports in France suggest that the 23-year-old has signed a deal with Toulon with a clause that would allow the to play in Australia for 2015 before returning to Europe.

Back in December, Toulon manager Bernard Laporte confirmed that exiled Australian had agreed to join the European champions next season. O'Connor had been spotted in Toulon speaking to club owner Mourad Boudjellal and head of recruitment Laurent Emmanuelli in November.

But the player's manager, David Shand, insists that no long-term contract has been inked and that he is negotiating to secure another short-term deal with a European club.

"That was not the case," Shand told Fox Sports News with reference to the reports of the Toulon deal in French newspapers.

Meanwhile, Wallaby coach Ewen McKenzie has confirmed that O'Connor will be considered tfor selection if he returned to Australia, adding that he spoke to O'Connor "periodically."
