Elsom pens deal at Toulon

Rob Simmons with Rocky Elsom

Good news: Rocky Elsom

Former Wallaby captain Rocky Elsom has signed a deal with Top 14 giants Toulon, joining as a medical joker for injured back-row Stéphane Munoz.

Toulon announced the move for the 30-year-old, who has been dogged by injuries this past year, after the player passed a medical at Félix Mayol.

Elsom arrives as a replacement for Munoz and will train with the group from next Monday. He could play with the first team in four to six weeks.

"He is primarily a very good player. Plus he is a likeable man, which I noticed in a week. While he has experienced physical problems, he was able to return and will be a good reinforcement for us, " said Toulon club manager Bernard Laporte.

Signing an injury prone player as a replacement for an injured player? On paper this seems quite odd
