@nhsaints: could be another reason why Lomu never got into fights... Would you hit him? And run away fast enough?

@go Wales: it's not like he drove a golf biggie pissed down the M4!

@jonsey2: try anything Bokavenger posts

These things are so darn funny except when it's your own countryman who does it. Then it's so darn infuriating.

Totally agree with APV1... But also it's a hard sport that selects these hard kids. Can't be soft on them but kind of have to expect it on occasions.

kenttaff - a particularly ignorant and uninformed post there; suggest you think more about Beale's ancestry before making such a comment. Leave the race stuff out of it.

@ GoWalesGo - further to lawynd's point, I also don't want my kids growing up and admiring these eejits. Rugby players? Yes, absolutely! But the likes of Richard Hill, Jason Robinson, Dan Carter, Wilkinson, BOD, Lynaugh, Greenwood, etc etc.

There are so many great role models in rugby, one can't begin to list them all. But if, as I believe, that rugby isn't just about the matches, it's about the philosophy and the ethos too, those who cock-up should be held to account and publicly admonished. Whether they want to be or not, they're now in the public eye, are role models and need to accept that with the trappings of professional rugby, also come responsibilities.

I agree with that. But we have to learn to stop being so paranoid about what the SH thinks of us, they certainly don't care what we think.

whats the problem here. all ozzies are crims by ancestory anyway so he is just going back to his roots surely?......

@GoWalesGo - true, to a certain extent, except many of the same posters here who 'learn to let live' are the first to get on our case if it's one of our own that's gone astray. You can't, sadly, have your cake and eat it.

I think in all honesty. The Australians/Kiwis just learn to let live and get on with life. We make to much of a fuss about these sorts of things in the UK

APV1 - Guildford. That would be wrong.

Exactly, though I'm sure you didn't mean it that way

ZG was in another country, off season - Cook Islands - their police did not lay any charge/s. He was suspended four matches by his employer and ordered to undergo counselling for bad behaviour as an employee.

Quite wrong to compare then - no charge, no bail, no pending conviction. Bad behaviour yes, but essentially a lot of hearsay and media hype - fail to see why CI police would have cared, or even heard of him.

@ JamieTheProp - Hear! Hear!

@ latehit - I agree. In most industries a person is suspended (on full pay) for alleged acts of gross misconduct. And where I work, Common Assault - albeit out of work - leading to criminal charges still counts as gross misconduct. It's all about bringing the company / sport into disrepute.

Remarkable that they get away with it.

Danny Care was suspended from the EPS for his issues, yet KB et al continued to be allowed to play (even if they didn't due to injury). What sort of message does that send out?

tha_mai says...

re "his client and the alleged victim were attempting to resolve the matter out of court" - if they have already been 'attempting' for the last month, and failed, and need another eight weeks - sounds almost like blackmail.

Either they accept his eg apology and financial compensation or they don't.

"How much will you pay?"

Presuming that if agreement could have been reached before this hearing, which KB would surely have preferred, there'd be no further charges.

I wonder how much negative comments there would be if he was an English player...

Posted 06:41 25th July 2012

latehit says...

What bugs me is the whole that he and a number of other high profile Aus players seem to be "above the law" when it comes to bringing the game into disrepute. How is it players like Lote T get shafted for being a twit yet others in this current crop of "stars" are allowed to rob, fight, steal cars, use recreational pharmaceuticals and the ARU turn a blind eye.

John O'Neil and his cronies have set precedents that will have ramifications for a long time within Australian Rugby. Whilst no one expects any sports star to be a perfect saint but any time there are criminal charges and acts that tarnish the Union game, players should be held accountable and not allowed to carry on like nothing has happened. Its the price you pay for earning massive dollars and living in the public eye.

Lets face it, Kurtley, the Quadestile and James O'Bieber aren't really cheerleaders for the mensa society.

@JamieTheProp

This would never happen to an England player....being charged for JUST common assault. Our lads would never sink that low,ABH,GBH, public decency offences are just so much more the next level.
