Perpignan fly-half Camille Lopez has been linked with a move to Toulon next season with Jonny Wilkinson set to retire.
While Toulon have signed two prestigious goal-kickers in Leigh Halfpenny (on a three-year deal) and James O'Connor (short-term), no direct replacement at number ten has been linked up to replace one of the all-time greats.
The assumption had been that Frédéric Michalak and Matt Giteau would cover the fly-half role, but according to Midi Olympique, Lopez could be a potential player to come into the squad.
Should he make the move from Perpignan Lopez would be Toulon's only true fly-half, with Michalak used at nine and ten and Giteau primarily operating at inside centre.
25-year-old Lopez had been battling it out with Rémi Talès for France's number ten jersey, but was ruled out for the season in December and missed the Six Nations after rupturing his ACL.
Midi Olympique suggest that Lopez's move could come as a result of Perpignan's relegation to the ProD2. The Catalan club are currently two points clear of second-bottom Oyonnax.
