Lam one of seven joining Bristol

Bristol have captured highly-rated Hurricanes flanker Jack Lam as one of seven new signings the club announced on Wednesday.

Lam, five times-capped by Samoa, has won plaudits with the Wellington-based franchise since his 2011 debut, making 37 Super Rugby appearances.

It is yet another statement of intent from Bristol boss Andy Robinson, who currently has much-vaunted Edinburgh pair Ross Rennie and Stuart McInally on loan, with Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel and fellow Samoans Anthony Perenise and David Lemi joining ahead of next season.

"Jack is a major coup for the club and we're pleased to have secured his services," Robinson told the Bristol Post.

"He's an uncompromising tackler and a physical ball-carrier who can scare opposition defenders.

"To be able to attract international players of Jack's quality underlines what we are trying to do at Bristol and the vision of the club's owners."

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to represent Bristol and integrating into a new environment," said Lam.

"Bristol is a club with huge ambitions which match my own. I want to test myself against the best players in the Northern Hemisphere - I am confident I can do that at Bristol.

"I'm excited about the vision and direction that Bristol are going - it's a club with great potential."

Linking up with Lam for the 2014/15 campaign will be talented Ospreys fly-half Matthew Morgan, the 21-year-old also penning a two-year deal.

"We're pleased that Matthew has agreed terms - he's a talented young player with a huge amount of potential," added Robinson.

"There's no doubting his ability. Matthew shows a positive attitude in everything he does and his line-breaking skills will benefit our style of rugby.

"This is a great challenge for Matthew and I'm looking forward to seeing him perform in a Bristol shirt."

"I'm pleased to be joining Bristol - it's a club with a strong reputation and plenty of ambition," confirmed Morgan.

"I would like to thank the Ospreys for my time with the team and the supporters, too, who have been brilliant throughout. Hopefully, I will play a part in ensuring we finish the remainder of this season strongly.

"Thereafter, my aim is to make this next phase of my career successful, both for me and Bristol, which will be the best way to support my ultimate ambition of one day playing for Wales.

"The attacking game that Andy and Sean Holley (Bristol and ex-Ospreys coach) have instilled really appeals to me - it suits the way I enjoy playing. With the coaching set-up and resources in place, it's clear that Bristol has the potential to be successful and I'm looking forward to playing my part."

Robinson has also bolstered his squad for next season with the addition of Leinster duo Darren Hudson and Jack O'Connell, as well as Harlequins hooker Max Crumpton, Bath back-row Nick Koster and Leeds scrum-half Craig Hampson, all on two-year contracts.
