Bath won comfortably but failed to score a try bonus-point in their simple 24-6 win over struggling Newcastle Falcons at The Rec.

Bath headed into the match in fine form, having won their last four matches in all competitions, while Newcastle were seeking to build momentum following last week's win over Newport-Gwent Dragons.

The game was played in tough conditions meaning try-scoring opportunities were difficult to create, and there was little between the sides for the majority of the first half.

George Ford opened the scoring midway through the first period with a penalty goal, after he'd missed an earlier opportunity.

Five minutes from half-time Phil Godman levelled the scores for the Falcons, after the visitors had initially gained ground with a penalty from the scrum.

Godman then put Newcastle in front early in the second half after Bath were penalised for holding on in the tackle.

The score gave the visitors a narrow lead, but the concession sprung the hosts into action and they quickly gained a stranglehold on the contest.

Horacio Agulla scored a converted try after Ford's footwork had carved open an opportunity, and then Nathan Catt laid the platform for Leroy Houston to dive over.

That made it 17-6 with time ticking away for the visitors, and they were unable to narrow the gap in the minutes that followed. Francois Louw added the exclamation mark in the final minute with Bath's third try of the afternoon, which was converted by Ford with the last kick of the game.
