Montpellier ended their Heineken Cup campaign with a four-try 24-6 victory over Treviso at Stade Yves du Manoir.

In a game which played second fiddle to the crucial match over at Welford Road at the same time, Montpol ran in four tries against their Italian visitors who offered little resistance.

Fabien Galthie's men finish the Pool stage with two wins to their name, two more than Treviso who have failed to get to grips with a group containing three massive clubs.

Treviso thought they had the first try in the 12th minute. An almighty mess in the Montpellier's defence allowed Franco Sbaraglini to show off his soccer skills. His hacked kick along the ground was picked up and finished by Ludovico Nitoglia, but TMO Derek Bevan ruled the try out due to the winger being ahead of the initial kick.

It took 19 minutes for either side to register, though it was worth the wait. After sustained pressure in the Treviso 22, Montpellier switched from one side of the field to the other in the blink of an eye, with Rene Ranger finding himself the beneficiary of a massive overlap to cross in the far corner.

That try got the hosts going, though it took them until 35 minutes to get their second score of the night. Mamuka Gorgodze, who had gone close minutes earlier, was at the back of a well controlled driving maul, and touched down wide on the left to give his side a comfortable 10-0 half time lead.

No sooner had Tobias Botes knocked over his sides first points of the game, had his opposite number Eric Escande sped over the line after the Italians failed to retain possession from kick off. Fortunately for Treviso, the hosts were denied due to a knock on in the build up.

With 25 minutes still on the clock, Botes cut the gap to just four points to set up a tense period of the game.

Lucas Dupont put any suggestions of an upset to bed just after the hour mark, showing a nice turn of speed to run in the third try.

Pierre Berard put the icing on the cake as the clock turned to 80, benefiting from some tiring Italian legs to finally give the home faithful something to celebrate in the Heineken Cup.
