Sealed: Jack Clifford

Harlequins boss Conor O'Shea praised his team's younger players after defeating Sale 24-3 on Saturday.

Quins were indebted to 14 points from the boot of Ben Botica, whilst rising stars Luke Wallace and Jack Clifford both scored crucial tries.

After a demoralising home loss to the Scarlets before picking up a losing bonus point away to Clermont in the Heineken Cup, O'Shea was happy to see his side get back to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership - where they now have three wins from six matches so far this season.

"We controlled huge chunks of the game and the win allows us to stay in the mix. The game is always challenging but you have to have belief in your young players," said O'Shea.

"We were disappointed that [Nick Easter's] try wasn't awarded and it made us become tight when I wanted us to play our way out of trouble.

"[Wallace, Clifford] and Joe Trayfoot played the whole of the second half and it was a huge learning curve for them but they will have learnt so much today.

"I would have expected them to be our back row in four years time not today as they have been thrown in at the deep end because of injuries."

O'Shea also revealed the latest on injury concerns to flanker Tom Guest and star fly-half Nick Evans.

"Tom [Guest] has gone to A and E but hopefully as a precaution. He has a head injury and had pins and needles but before going to hospital, the feeling was returning so hopefully he will be okay," added O'Shea.

"Nick jarred his ankle just prior to the first penalty so Ben took it, was successful and carried on from there as we didn't want to aggravate Nick's injury."

Meanwhile, Sale coach Bryan Redpath was left ruing his side's mistakes, whilst also believing the flanker Luke Wallace was offside ahead of

"We made too many basic errors with most of the fifty-fifty calls went their way. A couple of penalties were a bit harsh and Luke Wallace was definitely offside when he collected the ball for the crucial try," said Redpath.

"We had no option but to take him off which was disappointing as he was doing really well against Karl Dickson.

"It's unlikely Wales will pick him again as they are picking youngsters but if they ever needed him I am sure he would do a good job."
