Thomas thrilled with Wasps move

T Rhys Thomas: At home at Adams Park

Wasps hooker T Rhys Thomas admits he joined London Wasps for a fresh start - and with the club fighting for a Premiership play-off berth he couldn't be happier.

The 30-year-old made the switch from Cardiff Blues in the summer having spent nine years in south Wales.

And although he revealed it's been hard to leave family behind, the way the Adams Park outfit have transformed themselves this campaign has made him feel right at home.

Wasps have been the surprise package in the Premiership, finding themselves in the top four after narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of last season.

And following the 17-16 away win at reigning champions Harlequins on Saturday, Thomas claims everything is starting to come together on and off the pitch.

"I've got a good balance in my life," he said.

"When I go back up the M4 it's family life and coming this way down I'm a rugby man.

"I'd worked with Dai Young before and I know what he adds to my game. It's just been a really positive change.

"Dai's been really good in that respect, I couldn't have asked for more.

"I was looking to get out of my comfort zone. Obviously I'd been there a long time and just wanted a fresh challenge.

"We're not going to put out any bold statements that could come back to bite us.

"We just want to be as modest as we can and try and win our next game.

"I think a lot of the squad knew they'd under-performed last year. The talk pre-season was that we could achieve what we have and now here we are."

Thomas has gained 27 Wales caps in his career and is relishing the prospect that the Six Nations could be decided in the final game between England and Wales in Cardiff.

But while internationals such as James Haskell and Joe Launchbury are away he insists Wasps have the strength in depth to cope.

"We've got James Cannon who has come in for Joe and done a fantastic job," added Thomas.

"I've got total respect for Joe, he's a world class player, but we haven't missed him really and that's credit to James.

"Wales will have a lot more confidence from their win at France and England are playing well so it would be nice if that game decides the championship.

"This is the first time in my life I've ever had half an eye on England because I've got friends playing for them now.

"I'm not saying I'm supporting them but I want them to do well."
