No Carter nor Sexton for Racing

Carter won't come: Jacky Lorenzetti

Racing-Métro owner Jacky Lorenzetti believes that Dan Cater will not sign with a European club for his sabbatical and has conceded that the chances of Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton moving to Paris are "tiny".

Carter has long been linked with a move to the Parisian club but while Lorenzetti admits that negotiations were at an advanced stage in the past, he has given up hope of bringing the All Black fly-half to France.

"[The Dan Carter deal] is a disappointment," Lorenzetti told French channel Sport 365.

"I met him a number of times. He was keen and the financial conditions were in place. He would have complemented our current squad very well.

"It didn't happen because he got injured at the World Cup. He is frustrated to not have played [in the knock-out stages] and is desperate to feature in the 2015 edition. To do that he has to play in New Zealand.

"I think Carter will perhaps do a short stint in Japan, they're very generous patrons of world rugby. He won't come to Europe."

The multi-millionaire club owner also poured cold water on rumours that Sexton was on his way to the French capital.

Lorenzetti believes that the Leinster pivot - who is in the last season of his current contract - has entered negotiations with Racing in order to drive a harder bargain with the IRFU.

"The Irish are the Irish. They're very attached to their homeland," said Lorenzetti.

"They often have a strategy of blowing their own trumpet and using other clubs, notably the French, who are renowned for paying well, to raise the stakes, up the bidding and better negotiate their contracts in Ireland.

"If I have helped Sexton to better negotiate his contract, then why not? The chances of Sexton coming to France are tiny and to Racing ever more so."

Interesting. Dunno about Lorenzetti's comment about the Irish but probably more applicable to Ozzies who show interest in playing Rugby League..likeTuqiri did and more recently Kurtley Beale

Sexton and Carter were never going to go to France being in the international pinnacle of their careers. Perhaps Carter would be slightly swayed as he's already won a world cup, Lions series, and countless tri nations, but Sexton hasn't achieved his potential in an Ireland shirt so there wouldn't be a reason for him to leave.

What about the Union showing a touch of loyalty to the players and the supporters? Should sack most of them, leave a skeleton staff there, and pay Sexton, Ross and the lads no less than their value in a free market. Self-interested blazers are doing untold damage to the sport in Ireland.

BOD freely admitted that he did the same as Sexton by showing interest in joining Biarritz to help push up what the IRFU would pay when he had no intention of ever going to france, i dont think its the best way to show loyalty to your union but I have no issue with players looking at offers from other countries if they are going to seriously consider a move
