Dan Lydiate: Rehabilitation ahead of schedule

Dragons flanker Dan Lydiate is set to hand Wales a timely boost as he may be fit for the start of the Six Nations.

That was the word from Dragons coach Darren Edwards who said Lydiate is on course to make a full recovery, after breaking his ankle in September, and set to return to action within a month.

According to reports Lydiate's recovery is significantly ahead of schedule, and he could be considered for selection for Wales Six Nations opener against Ireland on February 2 in Cardiff.

"He is on course for the start of February," Edwards told Walesonline.

"It wouldn't surprise me if Dan has a half of rugby for us and Wales throw him straight in.

"He's that important - we saw how much he was missed during the autumn internationals."

A player who is certain as you say. And who will lead by example through his performance. Plenty of decision makers to help so don't need an experienced captain. Warburton is far from ideal with plenty of losses since his slam in the NHem I see his Captaincy experience as almost irrelevant even a negative with 4 losses to Oz. Wood is up there too but 6 is a real tough starting spot. Gray has never captained but I think I'd struggle to rule him out. Scottish, outstanding and as certain of a start as anyone. A head down talisman. Actually he's my pick. Flankers need to focus on keeping their hard contested shirts without captaincy.

I'd pick Heaslip. Of course BOD if he can win a starting spot. Gray would be interesting. Robshaw rather than Warburton but I'd not pick either.

Someone who can beat Australia. An English Irish or Scottish captain for example

@Armchairgeneral - I think he would like to choose someone who has led a grand slam team. You have many other candidates in mind who are first choice in their position?

Warburton will want to rush him back as then he might start to look good again and take the Lions captaincy that Gatland needs half an excuse to give him.

Good news, for Wales as they have certinally missed him in defence imo,but the oprative word is MAY be fit,Then after just one half of match ,being thrown straight into the 6Ns .That isnt really being fair tp the player imo, most need at least a couple of games to get back into the swing of things after a long layoff, yet alone back upto international match pace.

Rush him back and he'll get injured again, as important as he is bring him back slowly you also cant go from 4 months on the sidelines to a test match and expect to fire, it took tom wood several bench starts and mediorce northamton games before he found his best again.
