Philip Snyman cheetahs try v pumas

First try: Philip Snyman

The Free State Cheetahs ran eleven tries past the hapless Pumas in Bloemfontein to win their Currie Cup clash 80-16 on Saturday.

It was one-way traffic from the first whistle as the men from Mpumalanga simply could not keep up with the pace of Cheetahs' free-flowing game.

Boom Prinsloo's second of his three tries just before half-time gave the Cheetahs a bonus point and a 28-6 lead at the break.

If the first half was bad for the Pumas, the second period didn't start any better as the hosts scored another four tries within ten minutes of the restart.

Between them Sias Ebersohn and Johan Goosen slotted all eleven conversions with the latter's cheeky drop from over 50m out rubbing salt into the Pumas' wounds in the closing stages.

The Cheetahs' handling was top-notch with the home forwards impressing with their eagerness to off-load rather than go to ground.

Two second-half tries will come as scant consolation for the Pumas, who are still seeking their first win in 2011.

The result sees the Cheetahs climb to fourth in the Currie Cup standings.
