Can't quite see the point of NZ doing the haka against Tonga, Fiji or Samoa, given that half of the AB team seem to be 'naturalised' Tongans, Fijians or Samoans.
No-one from the SANZAR countries is in any position to finger point about 'spreading the word' - the continued shut-out of the Pacific Islands and Argentina from meaningful competition is a disgrace. SA vs NZ (again!) this w/e - yawn!!!!!!!!

Well then, where are all those thousands of people now that whined and moaned about the Kiwis getting the RWC '11 instead of spreading and growing the game in Japan or China or Italy?
Nowhere.
Because you now you have your own RWC at home where you think you've got a chance of winning it. Admit it, you were all afraid of playing the AB's in their backyard - it had nothing to do with spreading the game.
These are usually the same people who think the All Blacks haka should be banned because it gives some sort of unfair psychological advantage...yet when their team plays Tonga, Fiji or Samoa they think it's cute, only because you know you can beat them (most of the time anyways).
Man up dammit!
I'm glad the Japanese finally get a RWC...albeit in 10 years time. Go growing the game!
I can't wait for the laudable retorts. Really I can't.
Jeez it's good to have a b*tch about things sometimes.

I guess that would be the same enthusiasm and passion that saw the Lions playing to half empty stadiums last month. There were even empty seats at the SA / NZ game last w/e - in a ground with 45k capacity! Try getting tickets for a 6N game in Dublin, Cardiff, Paris or Twickenham, all of which seat 75k plus.
South African passion for rugby extends no further than South Africa. If they can't even be bothered to go and watch the Lions, what hope for Georgia vs Fiji in a pool game?
England will attract supporters from all over Europe; it's the right call. Besides the IRB have to find some way of getting money back in the coffers after the shameful SANZAR stich-up that saw the 2011 RWC (which is set to make a thumping loss) go to NZ instead of Japan

Sorry Rugbyref, perhaps I'm not makin my point clear enough for you to see. In SA, the enthusiasm and passion for the game is at such a level that I was able to walk into ANY pub and watch the rugby game, but in England, there was such a lack of interest that more pubs were showing the football than were showing the rugby. Even in 2007, it was difficult to find a pub in England showing the England games, never mind any other games, it was only once we realised that England actually had a chance of making it to the final that people started to take any interest. I'm pretty sure that very few pubs would have shown the final if it was SA v Another rather than SA v Eng.

As our estimed colleague states it was RWC99 - and it was not England responsible for the promotion and running of the tournament.
Many places all over the country showed the matches, it was also on free to air TV so could be seen on all TV sets. The lack of planning in organising a place to watch the matches is the fault of whom?

As usual London and Manchester will get all the games. When will organisers remember Rugby is played down in the West Country too !!

I was lucky enough to be in England in 99, and I remember missing the entire 1st half of the SA v Aus semi final in 1999 because I couldn't find a pub that was showing the game. I must have run into at least 10 pubs, and none were showing the game, they all had a premiership football game on instead. I know Wales were the official hosts, but many games were played in England, and the lack of interest in Rugby in England was embarrasing. I was also in SA in 95, and I bet 95% of ALL functioning TV sets in the country were showing the games. So well done IRB, another wasted opportunity, Italy are embracing and developing rugby while it's dying in England. Never mind, it won't be long before Italy are 6 Nations champs.

Today it was also announced that the original Rugby World Cup, that has existed for almost 40 years, will take place in England in 2013. The Rugby League World Cup had unprecedented success in 2008, and to be awarded the competition for 2013 is a major coup for the RFL after strong competition from rival competitors. So great news all round for British rugby!
