As an ardent supporter of Irish rugby I have especially enjoyed the artistry of Brian O'Driscoll over the past several years. So it was with some sadness and disappointment that I watched what may be his last performance in a Lion's jersey. He seemed to go a bit "ballistic" at Pretoria, throwing punches in a number of squabbles and generally getting too involved in the non-rugby "stuff". And, after watching a number of replays of his challenge on Russouw, I felt that it was indeed a bit over the top, and his injury was really self-inflicted.

He is a hard, immensely skilled competitor, but he is usually so immaculate in his execution, even at his most aggressive. On Saturday there was a coarseness to his game that was so out of character.

But in the years hence I will always remember him at his glorious best and forgive him this one afternoon of aberration.

That BOD is a good player, yes maybe so, but he is a far better moaner!!!!

I can understand the dissapointment of the Lion supporters, but how many times

in the super 14 and tri nations did we have to take that pil? So near yet so far,

so please old BOD take your medicine and go home in peace...

Biglenny81. Who were the moaners, not us but the pommy press. Please get your facts in order.

And no citing either, is it not amazing that there only seems to be citing on players that are not injured. It is really a case of the admin people not having a clue

Hope they gave BOD a rabies shot before sending him home---he was obviously crazed and hydrophobic last Saturday--his stupid headbutt meant Brussouw got to come on and turn the game

I completely agree with arthurfuxake. It would be nice if the journalists on this website would admit the foul play of their pure, holy B&I Lions. O'Driscoll smacked his stupid head against Habana's and then took Russouw out as well.

1. it WAS a spear tackle back in 2005 - the citing committee found them innocent based on available footage, but it was later conceded that they would have been found guilty if they had access to additional videotape which later became; furthermore, recent law clarifications have tightened previous interpretations of the law which would ensure a similar offence today would most certainly be punished

2. when u look at any slow mo tape of Saturday you will see that O'Driscoll's challenge was legitimate, though clumsy - contact was below shoulders, he wrapped his arms but bounced off

So you manage to win and still moan (whilst incorrect!)?? what a bloody great bunch of blokes!!

BOD is one of the best players in the world if not the best he's proved this time after time sad to see him go. Would have like to see him concuss a few more whining Bocks ! Even in victory they cant resist a good moan. Any chance to disrespect a great player, typical!

Should read..."O'Driscoll, skipper in New Zealand four years ago, was concussed after he carried out a violent arm-less charge from an off-side position on Danie Russouw during the agonising 28-25 second Test defeat in Pretoria three days ago. The dangerous infringement resulted in both players leaving the field with concussion, and has deservedly resulted in the Irish centre's early return home."

BOD only has himself to blame - if you play like a psychotic madman you are going to get injured.

I have no idea why he chose to play like that on Saturday, making high armless hits on any every Bok player he could find. A waste of amazing talent.

What a shame, as a proud Springbok supporter I was really hoping the boys would stick it to BOD on Saturday, he has been a real danger man all along and you can't be the best until you smash the living daylights out of the best!!

It was not a Spear Tackle in 2005, it was not even a tackle. Poor reporting.
