Great news, I always thought they should be promoted whether they had the stadium or not.
I think Newcastle should accept their relegation like gentlemen and Develop for the 13/14 season. They came last and we're thus relegated fair and square, an appeal would only make them look like sore losers at this stage...

@ leinster_goy - don't be soft in the head. This isn't about a North - South divide (let's leave that to bokavenger and the other trolls), this is about a matter of principal and the relegation system. Grab an atals for a moment and consider Sale Sharks too, will you?

@ liam2me - your prejudice is unbecoming. Anti-Englis nonsense, spouterd at every opportunity. In this case, you're complaining that the correct decision has been reached. God forbit they'd made an incorrect one. Twerp!
Don't get me wrong, the RFU is proving to be almost as incomeptent as ever. Thank Goodness that this mees is now sorted (I hope!), so that we can move on the next balls-up by the RFU for everyone to bleat about (me included).

@armchair general - agree completely, Bristol should have come up (as I think they should have when Exeter did) I feel the same way about the Premiership play-offs. A league is a league and a cup competition is a cup competition.
Not sure that its completely fair to compare S15 with AP though, sides only meet once through the league stages and alternate home and away season to season. It effectively turns it into a cup style competition anyway

ArmchairGeneral - And who do you think should win super rugby, the team that finished top or the team that wins the final? Everyone in the Championship knows how it works and, in my opinion, if you;re good enough to finish top you should be good enough to win the play-offs. If Newcastle were good enough to stay in the Prem they wouldn;t have finished bottom. The fact is this has been coming for some time for Newcastle, as people have said. I don't think they,ve finished any higher than about 9th since just the early 2000's. LW can't be any worse than Newcastle even if they do get relegated because onbviously Newcastle DID get relegated.

Jamesliveinhope: by that rationale then London Welsh were 4th in the season and squeezed through due to two games in a play-off system you are against. Don't think Newcastle should go down to London Welsh. I think Welsh can win the seasons silverware but the team that comes top should be promoted. Or play Newcastle for the chance.

@davodiablo - it's a bit cheeky lumping London Welsh in to that statement as the fifth, given that half of the issue over this is everyone saying that the size or standard of their ground shouldn't be the deciding factor on their promotion! As it is, even if you've never visited the UK you should have a fair idea that London is a rather expensive place to do business, and purchasing land and building a new stadium is no exception. Given that four of the five clubs you're talking about are London clubs, the point is disingenuous at best. Saracens have millionaire backers that have been able to secure a new ground off the back of redeveloping a community athletics facility - there aren't that many of those to go around. And the planning permission situation in Greater London is horrendous (I've had to navigate that particular minefield on numerous occasions); even if a site for Welsh or Irish or Wasps that was suitable was found tomorrow, we could be talking upwards of two years before construction could even be considered.
Also, it's unfair to include Sale in that list - they currently play in Stockport which is twenty minutes away and are moving to Salford City Stadium (a dedicated rugby facility) for next season which is only ten minutes away.

liam2me-English rugby doesn't want to dictate how the Pro 12 is run! English rugby wants the HEC to review how teams qualify for the HCup as its obviously not fair when the team which finished rock bottom of the pro 12 qualifies but you have to finish in the top half in England and France.
ArmchairGeneral- Im not sure how clubs play it in NZ, but in England the clubs tend to make their best signings after promotion has been secured. This means that the team finishing bottom of the Prem would usually be stronger than the Championship winners, but by the time the new season starts the promoted team would usually have strengthened and become stronger than the relegated team.

Well justice has been done , shame on the RFU that it took going to court ,and a ruling to get it .Lets pray this never happens again ,as it has left a stain on english rugbyThe RFU have been a disgrace ,and i do hope the court fines them very hevily for their arrogance .A few million for London Welsh imho should come in very handy i feel.I do however feel clubs need stay as close to home as possible ,im sure that a few championship football clubs in London would have loved to ground share with London Welsh ,maybe even a premiership football club .After all they havent all got billionaire backers like Chelsea

@armchairgeneral completely agree with the sentiment but surely the result of a single game (in either direction) cannot be an indicator of a teams potential longevity in a league competition.
Newcastle have been dead men walking for a couple of seasons now, their ability to beat London Welsh today may not be in question but London Welsh (like Exeter) will not be the same side come September.

Sale are Northern (Manchester area) for England...try looking at a population map of England and then you'll see why there is an upsurge of southern teams and a fall in northern ones...hard to run a club when you can't fill a stadium or pull together a large pool of local players.

The ultimate goal of promotion and relegation should be for cream to rise and dross to drop. I prefer the NZ system where winners Welsh would play Newcastle and need to win to go up. No point in promoting a weaker club... And who thinks Welsh would beat Newcastle on a neutral ground? I don't. Welsh are no Exeter in my view but we shall see.

2 minds here although agreed that its should have been sorted before now, both teams shouldn't have to be 2 months away from a season start not knowing which division they'll be in.
I agree that, if you have relegation and promotion, Newcastle should now accept it and get on with it BUT, like @Davodiablo the issue of club's abandoning their home to such a degree must be a consideration when assessing suitability. In context, the distance of the move is similar to Bath moving to Oxford.
I live in Bournemouth and had a Bath season ticket for several years but had to abandon because the cost was just too great - whilst I am sure that there will be a lovely new fanbase in Oxford what of the poor guys that have parted with their hard-earned supporting their club to the level they are at now.
Was there not also suggestions that the WRU were looking to set the exiles team up as a 5th region operating in the premiership.

leinster_goy- Newcastle weren't 'kicked out to make way for another london-based side', they were relegated like all other clubs have been in past years when they've finished bottom of the league. And by the way, the Premiership is not the only form of rugby in England. The Championship is a strong league in its own right, full of professional players and also now with three teams who like to think that they're really Premiership clubs, allied to the other strong clubs that are trying to get to the Prem. This is not the end of Newcastle. It could actually be the start of a strong period for them as they'll have a chance to get that winning mentality back as the likes of Saints and Quins did.

Well done london welsh you won the championship fair and square (in a silly format) you fought the usual RFU nonsense in the correct way and got the right result. As far as rugby next year I think you will be lucky to win one game (maybe against Worcester if your lucky), you came forth in the championship, being closer on points to 7th than 1st. I wish you luck but you aint no chiefs or harlequins.

The richest league in the world has 5 teams without a ground . I suggest they stop spunking their cash on imports and buy themselves a ground near their support .All these London Clubs are playing so far from their fans with Saracans the only club doing something about it .
