Rebels: Bring in an Irishman

The Rebels have bolstered their 2014 Super Rugby squad with the signing of Melbourne-born Leinster hooker Tom Sexton.

Sexton has played the majority of his rugby in Ireland with Leinster where he featured through the club successes in the 2012-13 season.

The former Irish schoolboy captain was looking forward to coming home to Melbourne and the challenge of Super Rugby.

"I am really looking forward to it, I am obviously a little bit nervous about moving to the other side of the world again, but it is definitely very exciting," Sexton said.

"I was definitely flattered to have a team from Super Rugby interested in me but I was also mindful of how much credit I owe to Leinster and Irish rugby for where I am today, it was a tough decision to leave, but I am thrilled to return home to Melbourne and play for the Rebels.

"Having been born in Melbourne, I then left Australia at four years of age. I have been fortunate to receive a great Irish education. My rugby career also benefited greatly from exposure at club, school, academy and professional level in Ireland. But in many ways I am returning home.

"I have kept a close eye on Super Rugby, particularly in Melbourne with the Rebels because it was where I was born. With the likes of Wallabies James O'Connor, Kurtley Beale and Nick Phipps now playing for the Rebels, I can't wait to be part of it!"

Sexton will arrive at the club at the completion of the 2013 season.

I panicked and thought that was J Sexton they were talking about there, still it's good to see club/hometown loyalties.

they've only bleedin changed it - the original headline - "Sexton joins the rebels" obviously didn't get enough attention so now its "Leinster's Sexton..." and I fell for it again.
