damo = missing the point
great for potential development for the future players of italian rugby that it is all italian squad, even better maybe if based in rome..... and not be called zebre......
if you think its such a good/easy idea (damo) start up your own random franchise! maybe PR regulars should invest in a random european team and apply for RaboDirect Memebership....

lawynd's right - with no threat of relegation, it gives them an opportunity to develop without needing imports.

Zebre is an Italian team run by the Italian Rugby Federation. Italian teams were invited in the Celtic League to further develop the game in the country. Why would they need to stuff the team with foreign players? For the same reasons why other teams in the Pro 12 do not do it.
Zebra's herd is not that bad, it is made of some experienced players (to name a few Bortolami and Bergamasco), some others who have their last chance to show they are good to play at this level (Bocchino and Pratichetti), some up and coming (Venditti and Quartaroli) and some new kids on the block (Odiete and Sarto).
Let's give them a chance and please stop ranting.

I agree with damo, there are so many players who are currently unattached to top level clubs from a variety of countries that would run rings round this lot. Why not chuck in a load of Georgians, Romanians and Russians and some young kids from France, England, Ireland etc. I know the point is developing Italian players but noone will benefit from being in such a poor squad. With the addition of a few quality players they would not only be significantly more competitive but also a better side for developing Italian talent.

@damo - and exactly how would it develop Italian rugby if they simply stuff the team full of imports? Bear in mind also that if there was relegation from the Pro12 then Connacht and Dragons would have fallen out of the trapdoor a long time ago. 'Rubbish'...yes, your comments are.

Over half the squad are new to the "old" Aironi team.
Need good skills to blend them.
good luck to them.

What a useless start from this side, if they put their heads together they would buy in the best of Romania/Georgia and Russian players not attached to top 14 but instead the Italians have decided to do the safe thing and buy in all the rubbish from the aironi side which was an embarassment to rugby last season with their lack of ambition and ability, should have relegation in the magners to get rid of this rubbish, if any official from this side wants to talk about my comments i will give them my details as there are tens of higher class players playing in the Irish non professional leagues and if there is a desire to compete or survive this would be a better choice!!!!!!!!!!!
