Repentant: Stuart Hogg

Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg has publicly apologised after being sent off against Wales for a late shoulder charge on Dan Biggar.

Hogg was originally shown a yellow card by referee Jérôme Garcès before he consulted a replay of the incident on the big screen, changing the yellow to red.

The talented 21-year-old's sending off left Scotland with 14 men for over 55 minutes of the contest, with Wales eventually winning 51-3.

In a statement issued by the SRU, Hogg unreservedly apologised for the incident and revealed he had already spoken to Biggar.

"I would like to apologise to my team-mates, the Scotland management and all Scotland supporters for what happened today. I have let people down," said Hogg.

"I have said sorry in person to Dan Biggar and I have apologised to the referee, Jérôme Garcès.

"I always try to play hard and fair and what happened today was out of character for me.

"Once again, I'm very sorry."

Scotland boss Scott Johnson and Wales head coach Warren Gatland both defended Hogg after the match, describing him as "not a dirty player."
