George Ford Bath v Sale AVP 2013

Ready to shine: George Ford

Bath fly-half George Ford is relishing his first return to Welford Road since leaving Leicester Tigers at the end of last season.

Ford left the Tigers in a bid to secure more game time, with Bath beating off several other clubs who were also keen on signing him.

And the 20-year-old has done well since making the move. He has started 10 of Bath's 11 league matches and is currently the top points-scorer in the Premiership with a haul of 130 points.

His form has guided Bath to third spot in the standings but he is not getting carried away ahead of Sunday's crucial encounter with Leicester who are in fifth place on the table.

"I can't wait - Welford Road is a great place to play and Leicester are hitting a bit of form as well, so it's got the potential to be a great game," Ford told the Bath Chronicle.

"It's the first time I've been back. It will be interesting. You make friends at the club and around the stadium, so it will be good to see everyone again.

"When I left I was at a time in my career when I just needed to get game time and my decision to come here was to get the best possible chance of doing that.

"Up to now it's probably worked out alright but I know, as an individual and a team, that things can change very quickly.

"My feet are firmly on the ground. I've just got to keep working hard here because I know my spot in the team is not guaranteed with the likes of Tom [Heathcote] and Gavin [Henson] on my heels."

Ford believes Bath must seek a reaction against Leicester in a bid to reinforce their Premiership play-off hopes.

"These top-four teams, they are not there every year by fluke," he added.

"When teams slip up or go to sleep, they capitalise on it.

"Leicester have been in the top four for years. They are a massively hard team to beat at Welford Road but we have got to have a reaction this week.

"We are in a good place, it's not all doom and gloom. Northampton was a blip after an 11-game run, so we are still very positive. There won't be any knee-jerk reactions.

"We have to go with a plan and try to take it to Leicester. If we don't, it could be like last weekend."
