Matt Toomua: Tore his hamstring

Wallabies inside centre Matt Toomua will miss the rest of his side's European tour after tearing his hamstring at training.

Toomua, who usually plays as a fly-half for the Brumbies, suffered the injury in Edinburgh on Tuesday and although he finished the session scans revealed a partial tear.

He is flying back to Australia and will miss Saturday's clash with Scotland at Murrayfield and the final tour match against Wales at the Millennium Stadium on November 30.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie said it was a disappointing blow for the talented 23-year-old, who had been outstanding in his debut Test season, earning 10 caps and securing his role in the starting line-up for the opening three games of the tour.

"Matt has had a fantastic season and has done a terrific job for the Wallabies in a new position," he said.

"It's extremely disappointing to lose him at this point and not have him available for our final two games.

"However, he's shown all the positive attributes we want in our players and are looking forward to seeing him use his international experience to continue his development during the Super Rugby competition next year."

Toomua's injury is the latest setback to the Wallabies back-line, which has been in superb form in the past two victories over Italy and Ireland.

He has impressed as a playmaking foil to first-choice Test pivot Quade Cooper.

But the Wallabies' back-line will now be without his services along with incumbent wing Adam Ashley-Cooper and Nick Cummins, who were stood down for staying out late in Dublin last week, and suspended outside centre Tevita Kuridrani.

Christian Leali'ifano was set to replace Kuridrani but now he may move back to the number 12 spot as Toomua's replacement.

This could force McKenzie to switch Israel Folau from full-back to fill a gap on the wing or at outside centre, and promote Bernard Foley to start at number 15.

Rookie Chris Feauai-Sautia is also an option at outside centre having played there for the Reds in Super Rugby this year. Feauai-Sautia is a certainty to start but is more likely to feature on the wing alongside Brumbies speedster Joe Tomane.
