Lambie: Chance to stake Bok fly-half claim

Bok coach Heyneke Meyer is set to give Pat Lambie a chance to prove his mettle in the number 10 jersey during South Africa's tour to the UK and Ireland.

The men in green and gold face upcoming Tests against Ireland, Scotland and England during November.

And with recently promoted fly-half Johan Goosen left out of the squad with injury, Meyer has favoured upcoming star Lambie to have a go.

However, Meyer still didn't say outright if the 22-year-old Lambie would wear the number 10 jersey against Ireland next Saturday, or if he'll field current second-choice Elton Jantjies or the recalled Morne Steyn in the opening match.

"Pat will definitely be a contender there and I think he can be a great fly-half," said Meyer, who has pigeon-holed the Sharks playmaker as a full-back in his first season at the helm of the Boks.

"He is tried and tested at Super Rugby level and I want to use this opportunity to see what Pat can do at this level.

"For me it is very important at Test level that your fly-half be a good tactical kicker," Meyer continued.

"I wasn't impressed with Pat's tactical kicking before and I asked him to work on that aspect. He showed me in the Currie Cup that he has done the necessary work and I have been very impressed.

"But, having said that, after this year I'm going to stick with two number 10s going forward to the 2015 World Cup."

I have to say its about time P.Lambie was given a proper run in the team. That he is talanted isnt in dought ,its just what posistion is his best, and how it fits into the national squad/team.Myself a trio of FHs like Lambie ,Goosen and Janties looks very appeaing ,espically if one or two of them can play 12 aswell.

Lambie should have been the 10 in the rugby championship. It must be soo frustrating for him not to be getting game time. On reflection Goosen should have played currie cup rugby and then hopefully gone on tour (injury free). He has to be manged correctly by the cheetas and the Bok. I hope Lambie and Jantijes get game time along with the other newies. There should be a few mid week games for the whole touring party to get game time (old school). This nonsense with 4 sat matches has to stop. Guys need game time to develop, be familiar with their new team mates. They will also gel as teammates and only then will these guys bleed for the jersey as we expect them to.

I have always said no.10 is Patrick Lambie's best position and that he should play there for the Springboks. He is a better fly-half than Elton Jantjies in my opinion, who does not have the cool head and attitude of Lambie and as a result is too up and down... (just look at how poorly he performed in the Currie Cup semi-final).

For me the Bok no.10 jersey should be between Goosen and Lambie, who are both incredibly well-rounded, talented, creative and cool-headed fly-halves.

We all know what Steyn can (and can't) offer to the Springboks' game. I would be surprised to see him on the pitch.

Let's see what these youngsters can offer.

I'm a WP supporter and to me he's the number 1 flyhalf in this country ....then Johan Goosen and Elton Jantjies. I'm still astonished to see Morne Steyn still makes the Boks sqaud. It's pathectic.....

I hope P.Lambie gets a break. And please not M. Steyn, not now. He has to wait.
