Jurie Roux: Contacted Cheeky Watson

SARU has established an investigation into a suspected breach of their Super Rugby participation agreement by the Kings.

According to a SARU press release, the governing body's CEO Jurie Roux has contacted Cheeky Watson - the chairman of the Kings board - on Tuesday to advise him of the inquiry and also to caution him against any potential breaches.

The matter was discussed by an emergency teleconference of SARU's executive council on Tuesday.

The executive council, in accordance with the SARU disciplinary and judicial regulations, decided to appoint a judicial sub-committee to investigate the allegation.

In the event of a breach being proved there is a wide range of sanctions available, starting from a caution to a maximum fine of one million rand or a recommendation to the general council to suspend or expel the offending organisation.

Fish, they are in their first year, what do you expect? I think you are expecting too much too soon. The could well beat established teams full of internationals such as the Waratahs this year. No, I think you have a deeper resentment of some kind here that you are not admitting to. You have written disparaging remarks on just about every article having to do with the Kings.

nope not a lions fan i root for the cheetahs and the brumbies, the kings have nothing going for them, imo, nothing n attack, if thats how they play at home with such great support from their home crowd....they are really awful if you ask me

Fish, they were the first Super Rugby team to ever win their first game. That is impressive. They were at least competitive in the other games. Yes, I am impressed. You must be a Lions fan.

impressed with the kings? 3 HOME games and a bye week and they won one game without a bnus point, they lack an attack ...all they have is defense cause thats all they can do they are useless and boring t watch, i mean i dont want to watch a team defend for 75 mins, thats contrary to an exciting game, but now its desireable? seriously?

@JRHartley that is a really stupid comment. In the last 10 years, the South African Rand has dropped in value from 11+ to 13+ rands to the pound and with the complete mess in Europe's economy may well regain that ground. So to put this in a rugby context, a touring NH side's supporters can watch their side get a rugby masterclass at very slightly better prices than a decade ago.

Apologies PR Ed, but stereotypes are built one little falsehood at a time.

I agree with Brands, I have been impressed with the Kings. I do not know anything about the internal workings (including possible illegal - didn't learn anything from the article), but I think they have put up a much bigger fight than anyone expected.

I see in this report there is no mention about points loss, probably because the journalist who first suggested this realised as his compatriots have that this is a decision for Sanza.not hr SARFU. However whatever else is decided such as being thrown out as a participator at the end of this year, fines sanctions and such yes that will be a decision for SARFU. Ironic isnt it how this flawed decision of SARFU has come back to bite them on the bum. Karma abounds lol.

no problem... wait a few weeks for the exchange rate to fluctuate and I'll be able to pay the million rand fine out of the change in my pocket!

5Lock4ward - I agree, I can definitely see this being mentioned when the Lions are brought back for next season. 'We gave you a chance and you messed it up by fielding too any foreigners', 'it was supposed to bring rugby to more South Africans, not less'. As with London Welsh it could be that the lawyers who got them there in the first place could be the ones who remove them.

jivinjeff, reference to a well-known search engine's news portal says there's dispute about the number of foreign players fielded, with a cute and fascinating weasel-word argument (my opinion) from the Kings that Argentinians count as South Africans.

I need my memory refreshed. Of the six languages in the Rainbow Nation's national anthem, I am hard pressed to recall the Spanish section.

All part of the plan. Now they can say they gave the Kings their chance at Super Rugby for this season and bring the Golden Lions back for the next one. Luke Watson returns to Western Province and the Stormers, while Daniel Adongo apologizes for leaving the Bulls, is welcomed back with open arms and everyone is happy.
