Heart attack: Bob Dwyer

Former Australia coach Bob Dwyer is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack, it emerged on Thursday.

Fairfax said the 72-year-old had chest pains at his farm south of Sydney on Wednesday and was taken to a local hospital where he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was later rushed to a western Sydney hospital where he underwent surgery.

"Talk about being at the right place at the right time, if it had have happened at home I would be dead," Dwyer said.

"I was on a monitor and had the doctor with me and (then) I had the arrest. They gave me the electrical charge straight away and I came back. So I had the procedure and this morning I felt pretty much brand new. I'm doing well. I feel fine."

Dwyer coached Australia to the Rugby World Cup title in 1991 when the Wallabies beat England.

He later coached in England and at the New South Wales Waratahs and was inducted into the International Rugby Board hall of fame in 2011.

Maybe time to take a break Bob.

But don't stop coming to Thailand - BD has been holding coaching development clinics for Thai coaches (three times last year) since March 2012, and also coaching schoolboys and assisting with fundraising events for their rugby here.

Hope for a quick recovery.
