Dewaldt Duvenhage: Suffered a fractured fibula
Western Province's win over the Blue Bulls came at a cost after scrum-half Dewaldt Duvenage suffered a season-ending leg injury.
Duvenage left the field during the first half of WP's 42-6 victory with a fractured fibula but the Cape Town outfit's coach Allister Coetzee is confident that the 24-year-old's injury will not be a huge setback for his team.
"Season-ending injuries are always tough to deal with - like Siya (Kolisi) last week and now Dewaldt," he said.
"It's very unfortunate for Dewaldt and I feel for him, but we're lucky that we've got three quality scrumhalves here in Dewaldt, Louis Schreuder and Nic Groom.
"Our rotational policy (at scrum-half) this season has put us in good stead."
WP left wing Ederies Arendse has also been ruled for 10 days after sustaining a shoulder injury against the Bulls.
Coetzee expressed his delight with his team's effort against their traditional rival who were on a high after beating the Sharks last week.
"Win or lose we always had a plan and we will always stick to that plan," he revealed.
"Against the Bulls the guys executed the plan well and took their opportunities.
"I'm really proud of the players. This is a quality Bulls side - the guys applied themselves well, so I'm happy."
Province's next match is against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein and Coetzee expects a difficult assignment as all the teams are competitive this season.
"We were fifth on the log before the Bulls game, now we're second - it shows how 'funny' the tournament is this year, what with the new format and the various upsets on a weekly basis," he said.
"Next week will be tough against the Cheetahs, but, for now, we're happy that we improved the things we worked on during the week - the breakdown, our penalty count and taking opportunities.
"Last week against the Lions we had opportunities but just didn't take them, like we did against the Sharks in the first week.
"So we're aware that things swing in a round-about.
"The key, however, is to remain consistent and to try and match that intensity from the Bulls game in weeks to come."
