While avoiding studying and trying to convince myself that Munster will pull off the impossible in Marseille next Sunday, I came up with what I thought was an interesting concept.
The idea was to construct a world XV, using one player each from each of the top 15 countries in the world, although I decided to swap out Japan for Georgia as I had to have Mamuka Gorgodze in there.
This is what I came up with:
15. Israel Folau (AUS)
14. Napolioni Nalaga (FIJI)
13. Manu Tuilagi (ENG)
12. Wesley Fofana (FRA)
11. Fetu Vainikolo (TON)
10. Dan Carter (NZ)
9. Kahn Fotuali'i (SAM)
8. Sergio Parisse (ITA)
7. Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe (ARG)
6. Mamuka Gordogze (GEO)
5. Jamie Cudmore (CAN)
4. Richie Gray (SCO)
3. Adam Jones (WAL)
2. Bismark du Plessis (SA)
1. Cian Healy (IRL)
Where possible I tried to ensure the very best players in their positions in the world were picked and I think Healy, du Plessis, Carter, Fofana and Folau certainly fit that bill.
The toughest decision was which Fijian to put on the wing. How do you choose just one from Talebula, Nalaga, Nadolo and Goneva?
I'd be very interested to see what other readers would come up with.
