No BOD or Best for Ireland

Ruled out: Brian O'Driscoll

Ireland duo Brian O'Driscoll and Rory Best have both been ruled out of the upcoming November internationals, the IRFU announced on Tuesday.

O'Driscoll picked up an ankle injury in the game against Cardiff Blues and following further scans, it has been decided that the injury requires surgery to repair ligament damage, ruling out centre O'Driscoll from playing for 8-12 weeks.

Best been ruled out of the games against South Africa, Fiji and Argentina, due to a neck injury he sustained last Friday playing in the RaboDirect PRO12 game in Wales against the Dragons.

Following a scan and medical review, it was confirmed that Best has sprained ligaments in his neck which will require a rest and rehabilitation period of between 4-6 weeks before a further assessment of the injury takes place.

Irrelevant point you make here (and cheers Irishzimbab for the interjection). I may have been unclear in my meaning, but the point is if Ulster players, those from ulster that is, could hold irish passports if they were so inclined. There is a vast difference between this and someone like Jared Payne, who I welcome to the provincial jersey who, in 2 years will qulaify to play for Ireland, I think the latter is wrong.

Ireland to lose two of the three Autumn internationals, Kidney to survive to 6 Nations and Ireland to get stuffed before Kidney eventually steps aside (or at least fails to get his contract renewed), at which stage Ireland are in the third tier for World Cup seedings, and a raft of Irish players miss out on Lions selection because of Kidney's incompetence.

Maybe they want to spare him some hits from the Boks back row .

Just joking, lads.

As anybody of us, he is not getting any younger and injuries will occur more and more frequently, sadly.

Not great news as BOD is a player Ireland will miss. A born leader and in his day one of the worlds best centres. Unfortunately, injuries will be more frequent as he has been playing so long as well as the type of game he plays (how many turnovers does he make as well as slowing down oposition ball? - the best in the business from a centre). Ireland need to move on from BOD and a few others to be honest (O'Connell, O'Gara, O'Callaghan, D'Arcy to name a few). Kidney seems very one eyed and this will catch him out in a year or two if he doesn't open up his mind (that's if he lasts that long!).

J_Hdk - ref Norm and Ulster passports. I was born in Ulster, went to school and played both school and club rugby in Ulster. Have supported Ulster at Ravenhill over two decades and Ireland at Lansdowne Rod for two decades. Am a fervent British Lions fan - and have an Irish passport.

What was your point? This being a rugby website?

@Norm national passport?

How many Ulster players hold Irish passports?

A passport is a travel document issued by the governing body in charge of legislation and taxation for a specific region. It can't tell people about who you really are or how you view yourself in the world Qq

Sad to see but it has to be wear and tear. You can't play at the level he has for as long as he has and not see some deterioration. BOD must be looking at the end of his career soon. Thats not to say that the old dogs not still got something in the tank

but when the wheels start falling off they keep on falling. This could be a tough one.

Couldnt agree more Diablo. Rules need to change. I wish Strauss well as an individual in the ireland shirt he doesnt set the rules, moreover I dont think he will keep his spot as I dont think he is a better option than Best, but this whole trading of nationalities is not good for the game, how can you play for a country but not hold the national passport. One more step toward Chavball!

Dublin airport will be busy with arrivals of uncapped saffas, kiwis, argies. Maybe I am just being cynical. On a serious note. A big blow for the Irish. They have pratically lost a fetcher in BOD. Best is a lion who I have lots of respect for. Gordon D'Arcy will look average without BOD. Great news for the Boks.
