Glasgow Warriors cruised to a 37-34 victory over inter-city rivals Edinburgh at Scotstoun, bagging a crucial bonus point that takes them to within touching distance of a home PRO12 semi-final.

The Warriors moved up to second-place in the league table on Saturday, and were seldom troubled - Edinburgh scored two tries in the final five minutes to secure both a losing and four-try bonus point.

This game, rearranged from almost five months ago, rolled around with the two Scottish pro-teams in very different situations. While Edinburgh's slow upturn in fortunes under Alan Solomons petered out thanks to several abysmal losses to Treviso and Zebre, Glasgow are very much the form side in the PRO12, having downed title rivals Munster and Ulster in previous weeks.

Finn Russell, widely touted as Scotland's Great White Hope at fly-half, kicked 12 points from inside centre, converting Peter Murchie's try and adding a brace of penalties as the hosts took a commanding early lead.

Edinburgh showed good resolve to hit back soon after, though, with Willem Nel burrowing his way over in the corner, and Greig Laidlaw in impressive form with the boot to haul the capital outfit into the match.

Ruaridh Jackson, departing to Wasps at the end of the season, snuck over in the opposite corner after a cute dummy and stretch for the line, before another promising Scottish back, Mark Bennett, powered his way home for try number three.

His opposite number, Matt Scott, was not to be outdone, however, as he continued his role as a rare bright spark for Edinburgh this season, dotting down to again reduce the deficit.

Glasgow remained dominant dominant after the break, with Murchie ghosting over the line to notch the bonus point, and flanker Rob Harley finishing off a fine piece of play from substitute Richie Vernon.

Edinburgh's consolation, and the losing bonus point came in the dying embers of the match, with Leonardi forcing his way over from the base of a ruck before Tim Visser broke away to score with the last play of the match. Laidlaw converted both scores with impressive accuracy, but in truth, the scoreline flattered Alan Solomons' side.
