Mark Bennett for Glasgow Warriors

Late winner: Mark Bennett

A late surge from Glasgow Warriors saw them overcome Cardiff Blues 27-20 in their RaboDirect PRO12 clash at the Arms Park on Saturday.

In a scrappy opening period, Robin Copeland's try and Simon Humberstone's boot saw the Blues take a 10-7 half-time lead, with Lee Jones scoring for the Warriors.

Lewis Jones' touchdown extended the home side's advantage in the second period before successive penalties from Finn Russell took the visitors to within losing bonus-point territory.

Gareth Davies restored Cardiff's seven-point cushion, but Eddie and Bennett went over in the last 10 minutes to move Glasgow back into the Pro12 play-off places.

Despite the national team's recent disappointing results in the Six Nations, Glasgow have provided a glimmer of hope for Scott Johnson's side this season by again challenging for a top-four position in the league.

In contrast to the visitors, the Blues have endured a torrid campaign, but they were able to call on the services of internationals Gethin Jenkins and Sam Warburton following their release from Wales' duty.

Their arrivals obviously served to inspire the rest of the team as they took the lead after just seven minutes when Humberstone was successful from the tee.

The next 25 minutes of the game proceeded to be an error-ridden affair as both teams struggled to break down the respective defences.

However, a mistake from the Warriors allowed Copeland to scamper over and put an end to the stalemate. Humberstone's conversion gave them a 10-point cushion but Jones' impressive try, where he shrugged off the attentions of a number of tacklers, reduced the deficit to 10-7 at the break.

Cardiff made the ideal start to the second period when Lewis Jones' piece of opportunism saw the scrum-half touch down, but Glasgow weren't finished.

The Scottish side have become renowned for their expansive style of play and, with Niko Matawalu and Leone Nakarawa leading the way, they hit back via two penalties from the boot of replacement fly-half Russell.

Although Davies' three-pointer provided brief respite, the Blues' rearguard eventually cracked when Eddie barrelled his way across the whitewash. Gregor Townsend's men then pressed for a winning score and it eventually came through Bennett.
