Marmion: two-year deal

Promising scrum-half Kieran Marmion has signed a new two-year contract with Connacht, tying him to the club til 2016.

It's a big boost for the side currently propping up the Pro12, with Marmion an exciting talent, and an ever-present in the team since his debut some 14 months ago.

Not only has his time with the club saw him cemented as a fans' favourite, but he also tops Connacht's try-scoring charts with five-pointers against the Ospreys, Saracens and Leinster.

Unsurprisingly, then, the 21-year-old, who was born in Wales, has reportedly attracted attention from Warren Gatland's national coaching staff, and won the province's Player of the Month award for September.

"I'm delighted for Kieran and for Connacht Rugby that we have this new deal. Kieran is a fantastic player and a key member of our squad and it's a real boost that he sees his continued development and future with the club he started his professional career with," Head Coach Pat Lam told the Irish Independent.

"From day one, Kieran has impressed me with his attitude, work ethic and incredible maturity and I have no doubt that he will go on to achieve great things within Connacht and Irish rugby."
