Julian Savea try new zealand v Argentina 2012 BA

Two tries: Julian Savea

New Zealand clinched the inaugural Rugby Championship title with a round to spare on Saturday with a 54-15 win over Argentina in La Plata.

The All Blacks produced their best performance of the year to demolish los Pumas, scoring seven tries including a hat-trick for Cory Jane and two for his fellow wing Julian Savea.

Centre Ma'a Nonu and scrum-half Aaron Smith also got their names on the scorecard to complete the rout.

The result sees the All Blacks extend their winning streak to 15 games ahead of next weekend's showdown with the Springboks in Johannesburg.

The world champions were given a scare early on as the hosts started in the best possible fashion by taking a 5-0 lead thanks to a wonderful try from scrum-half Martin Landajo.

But it didn't take long for New Zealand to strike back and once the visitors had found their rhythm, it was one-way traffic for the rest of the game and the men in black raced to a 32-8 lead by half-time.

Argentina were not allowed to get away with their customary spoiling tactics at the breakdown by referee Jaco Peyper, and with quick ball at their disposal, the All Black backs were at their devastating best.

The hosts tried to adopt a much more open style than we've seen in the past but while they produced two very good tries, they were unable to match the Kiwis at what they do best - moving the ball into space at pace.

The locals were looking good after Landajo's opening score from a well-worked first-phase backline move that saw full-back Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino burst through on halfway.

But the Argentine defence was nowhere to be seen when Nonu escaped from the fringe of a ruck to put Smith over in the 17th minute.

A few minutes later Read strolled through to set up Jane in the corner, Savea chased down his own chip ahead for his first try and then bagged another on the stroke of half-time.

Although Gonzalo Camacho shrugged off Andrew Hore to score after the interval, the All Blacks killed the game off as Savea manhandled two defenders to set up Jane's second.

Dan Carter kicked five from seven before being taken off along with Richie McCaw on the hour mark. But it didn't stop the points from flowing as replacement Aaron Cruden broke the line with his first touch and set up Nonu for an easy try.

Jane clinched his hat-trick with a 50m intercept with the last play of the game.

Man of the Match It's hard not to give the gong to one of the backs since they scored all the points. Richie McCaw deserves a mention but Kieran Read was phenomenal and had a direct hand in creating at least two of the tries for the flash boys out wide.

Moment of the match: There were a number of excellent tries - with Landajo's score a highlight - but Cory Jane's first try, thanks to a brilliant offload from Read, was out of the top drawer. It put the All Blacks 10 points up and they never looked back.

Villian of the match: No bad guys to be seen.

In rugby you will always receive the benefit of the doubt if you're the positive team playing well with pace, accuracy, superior fitness and attack the break down with numbers, it's quite simple really and especially when it comes to a southern hemisphere referee who likes an open flowing game where clearing the ruck for quick ball is seen positively. It's just about interpreting the different style.

All the referees NZ have had so far this competition have been NH refs and hence the disjointed performances. vs Argentina we have a South African ref and boom, an open flowing game with 9 tries.

Toulousain, anyone can analyse a small segment and make something out of nothing.. comments like this do amuse me though.. about sums up your opinion, that of a one-eyed child.

43.00 roncero politely asks why no pen, and is brushed away.

45.00 pumas 5m scrum. woodcock tries to con the ref for a pen.

If you dont like NZ then dont watch us. But save us the whinge. Poor loser.

Having a laugh on your comment on trolls. Now that really is a bit rich coming from you :) Anyhow good luck in Soweto I'm sure it will be a good game.

No doubt the ref will cop it from either parties depending on the result.

Enjoy those glasses of wine but don't mix them too much with the beer.

Cheers!

I don't think you are a thug but just a little one sided with your comments but then I suppose we all are to a certain extent. No insults intended. :)

Euskadi. thank you for your kind words. you are indeed correct. we did a similar mock analysis 3 years ago with asm clermont video footage. i am little off topic now, but we were so convinced that refs were favouring them at their stadium. so we took lots of video, but we transposed the shirts into black and white, and mixed footage from our home games too. so the analysts did not know if they were analysing toulouse at home, or asm at home. i bet you can guess the results, no? in the end, our analysts found the same faults with our players than with asm's players. it's just when you put back the colour, the inevitable "point of view" clouds the judgement. we are human. we have the same faults!!

enjoy the TJ and reffing this weekend. pax :-)

"so needlessly unpleasant". that really sums it up mon ami.

some of these kiwi posters are beyond help (although we need to remember that they are 0.00001% of the population of NZ). i will appease myself with memories of quiet dinners here in toulouse with outstandingly pleasant (and rather handsome) ex-AB players.

Merci, mon cher Madame.

I think you have fished the majority of trolls (rugby talibans) from NZ, well done, not a bad catch.

I'll have a glass or two of Armagnac on you next week end..

Santé.

@kennyisgay, you're spelling is really off, but no worries man, you're still funny

@Trader2. you lost me there with your "creditability"... or not... that really is funny!! a native english speaker who bothers to correct my english with....well, with what exactly..... a word that means...the ability to get a loan perhaps? or other forms of debt?? you'll need to help me on that one....

@7ton. thank you. you're right, my message (if there was ever one) is lost in the collateral damage. i guess it is simply impossible to review a tape, minute by minute, without provoking terrible outbursts. as is think i said before, if you generalise, you know nothing.if you are specific, you are insane. either way, there's no point in discussing aspects of a rugby game on this forum, unless you want to have your country's history, your personal mental state, the events of past armed conflicts, or a pick-and-mix of various insulting words thrown back at you.

and i am painted as the thug.

quel dommage.

It's been interesting to try and see the All Blacks through a non supporters eyes. Whats even more interesting is to know that we are watching the same pictures but seeing different things. I'm not going to try to point out what I see happening to recounter your views except to say that I personally do not see an issue with their actions in the 6 ruck sequence.

Thanks for sharing your views they have helped me.

I am the TJ and then ref for a couple of games this Saturday so watching, analysing and discussing such things will help me and therefore the players this weekend

merci

Congratulations to the ABs! They silenced the crowd so early it was unbelievable. At one point I was wondering: "what the hell is going on with my telly? the volume button is not working?" then I understood; the crowd was muted! How come? All this preparation and they couldn't get going? It was hard to swallow. I think this was such an anticlimax that in the end also affected the Pumas, of course. Not that they could have done a lot more but .. Anyway, the ABs were in full swing, relaxed, and enjoying their top game. Congratulations and come back next year for another rugby lesson. Class!

I do admire your fighting spirit but am sorry I think you are making too many assumptions with your points here.

Reading what Hansen actually said in that previous article it appeared that he was not criticising the Pumas but stating that his team would have to get to the breakdown quicker to ensure they get quick ball.

Both teams got away with things. Take the 22cnd minute where an Argentine player takes out an attacker with a shoulder charge and no arms used. Then there was the deliberate throwing away of the ball so the AB's couldn't take a quick lineout which should have been a penalty. We could go on and on and Yes the All Blacks got away with things as well however considering SA had just beaten Aus and were still in with a chance at the title why on earth would a SA ref want to favour NZ?

Finally in an early post you say " also, note how the beautiful "running" team takes every shot at goal possible."

Now with respect I am not too sure that you have analysed this game very well otherwise you may have noticed in the 49th minute with the score at 32-15 and with the All Blacks being awarded a very kickable penalty Dan Carter kicked for touch which resulted in a well deserved try being scored.

Later Cruden who had replaced Carter did kick a penalty obviously to get some practice in. That makes good sense.

@TVaddict

You say: ""However, the fact still remains that if the game was refereed by some omnipotent computer (or whatever) then a lot of the tries wouldn't have been scored. Not enough to change the result of the game, but it would have been more balanced.""

Where do you get the word "fact" from? Fact? That is delusional my friend, self-justifying conjecture, and intellectually dishonest.

I suspect you won't agree with me, but mistakes are not all one-way traffic in New Zealand's favour. Both Argentine tries this weekend could have been challenged on the basis of preliminary refereeing errors and Argentine misdemeanours. If you were minded to look. But rugby is by no means a perfect game; refereeing is very much about weeding out the irrelevant. Thank god most refs do just that most of the time and with an attempt at even-handedness.

And now, by way of intellectual curiosity, and with no intention of being rude or tri-curious, does the TV in your moniker stand for television or transvestite?

@APV1

I'm an admirer of JW (saw him once at The Stoop -- brilliant!), but I wasn't aware that he ever had a pomp.

DC running, yes, extraordinary. He has lost a couple of yards of pace as he has aged and accumulated injuries, so rarely does these days. (And when he seems to be clear, he tends to get caught from behind.) His try rate has slowed considerably, therefore. But when he does run, perhaps he is more likely to surprise the defence.

I must say Toulousain riles me. The man is so obsessively delusional. What can it be about a small country on the other side of the planet that inspires such dark fantasies in him? Perhaps he should be shut in a box with Sincero, who could at least thump a sense of 'umour into eem.

@kitch.

1st. it's not your team. what are you, their coach?

2nd. they certainly don't need you to standup for them.

3rd. how can you possibly be adding to this discussion if you don't have a tape of the game?

4th. i notice how some of you like to change/shorten peoples web names. it's not cool. i'm not called "tools". justlike you are not "witch". do you feel me? it doesn't make you look any smarter to not call me by my name.

5th why the !!!!!!! after the word woman? you are aware that we exist, no? more than half the population in fact. is it really so exciting for you to be talking to one?

6th pls point to my vitriol at the ABs. i have merely responded to some mediocre off-topic comments by not taking a backward step, and responding in kind. do you expect me to just run away? my vitriol (if any) is with you and your like on these pages. not with the ABs (who are really nothing like you at all).

let's try to start this again.

hi kitch. nice to meet you. how are you doing? i hear you are a big AB fan. i love rugby too. spent my whole life around it. and i really admire the ABs. which lover of rugby doesn't, after all? can i buy you a drink?
