Kurtley Beale Aus v Arg RC 2012

Impressive display: Kurtley Beale

Australia finished their Rugby Championship campaign on a high with a 25-19 victory over Argentina. Now Planet Rugby rates the Wallabies.

15 Mike Harris: If the man from North Harbour wasn't accepted as an Aussie after that Wales goal kick in June, then 20 points in Rosario should seal it. Took Argentina until the 45th minute to test him under the high ball, which he spilled - but did his job in front of goal. 7/10

14 Nick Cummins: Tough (but not toxic) environment for the 'Honey Badger' to make a start in and his team mates didn't help by ignoring some of his support runs. 5/10

13 Ben Tapuai: Butchered a three on one chance and lost possession 3 times. Will be far better games from the Reds centre. 5/10

12 Pat McCabe: Not much gets past the centre and led the defensive effort when Los Pumas were battering the line late on. Epitomised a gusty Wallabies performance. 8/10

11 Digby Ioane: Had coughed up the ball five times and was looking less than secure in possession before scoring the decisive try. 7/10

10 Kurtley Beale: Was close to being charged down and the 'air-kick' which wasted an overlap screamed of someone trying to force too much in difficult conditions. However his excellent delayed pass set up the crucial Ioane try so his ambition through the match was rewarded. Didn't miss a tackle in defence. 8/10

9 Nick Phipps: Did pretty well considering the contact area was such a mess and came agonisingly close to scoring. 7/10

8 Radike Samo: Juggled a few passes, made a couple of strong carries but outshone by Hooper and Higginbotham. 6/10

7 Michael Hooper: Exceptional work around the park and that 70 metre gallop livened up the game. Looks a real find for the Wallabies. 9/10

6 Sitaleki Timani: Moved to the back-row to match power with the Argentinians, he was asked to make those hard carries for short gain into contact and did his job. 6/10

5 Nathan Sharpe (capt): A bulldozing run early on, took his line-outs but influence faded as match progressed. 6/10

4 Kane Douglas: Not on long enough to warrant a rating after a nasty early collision ended his match.

3 Ben Alexander: Great kick around the 31 minute mark that put the home side under pressure and lasted the 80 minutes. 6/10

2 Tatafu Polota-Nau: Was lucky to stay on the field after going through the repertoire of penalties (collapsing the maul, not rolling away etc) in short succession. 5/10

1 James Slipper: Penalised at the scrum, and the set-piece improved when he was substituted. 5/10

Replacements:

17 Benn Robinson: On at half-time, the free-kicks and penalties at scrum time greatly decreased with his introduction. 7/10

18 Dave Dennis: Replaced Samo and was involved in that defensive effort on the try line. 6/10

19 Scott Higginbotham: On early for Douglas and put in a great shift, with the highlight being that try-saving tackle. Deserves a starting place. 9/10

20 Liam Gill: Another that came on late and got stuck into repelling the late Argentinian onslaught. 6/10

21 Brett Sheehan: On for a minute then sin-binned. 1/10

@Georgesmith: Bit harsh saying Stephen Moore needs to improve when he's been out injured. I can't remember the last time he had a bad game and am continually mystified why Deans picks TPN ahead of him. One look at his misshapen face is enough to tell you that he's always sticking his head places opposition forwards don't like. Which you want in a front-rower.

These ratings are ridiculous. Argentina gave them the game due to a naivety reminiscent of their play a decade ago. Atrocious. Australia were hardly any better. That they finished 2nd in this competition is bizarre to say the least. How does PR give Digby 7 - who scored a try but dropped the ball how many times? Hooper looked so good because the Argie forwards made him looked good. That massive exciting run he did should have been cut down after 5 metres!! PR - bollocks. Especially when you compare this to the SA and NZ ratings. That game was in a different league. Aus v Argentina equates to Scotland v Italy - on a bad day!

N. Sharpe, B. Barnes and R. Samo should retire now. If these two go any further then it will be detrimental to the future of Wallabies, especially the upcoming world cup. Nothing personal.

Wallabies lock-ing future has to be around players like R. Simmons, S. Timani, J. Holwell and some youngsters.

M. Hooper is amazing and D. Pocock when he returns has to start from the bench.

N. Cummins has to be tried more at 13 and I'm sure he will do a lot of damage.

K. Beale looks exciting at 10.

There needs to be more cover at no.6. D. Dennis is not the answer and shouldd go back to club rugby with S. Kepu.

Lets train B.Robinson more and develop some more front-rowers. T.P.N and S. Moore reallly need to improve or else they need to go.

Hard marks for Sheehan - he wasnt part of the previous offences.

Aus need more "gutsy"players like Mc Cabe, Hooper, AAC and of course Capt Fantastic and of the "stars"

If these are the Aussie ratings, then the Arggies must be really really bad since they lost to such a bad rating Aussie team.

A bit generous imo with the ratings, overall they where very bad ,they won because the pumas where even worse.Just one handling move worked and that for the decive try .Play like that in the aurtum tests and they will be whitewashed. But credit for wining the test in difficult circumstances

I'd give Nathan Sharpe an extra point simply for the overall job he has done this year - postponed retirement, then landed with captaincy and all the media attention that brings.

Buy that man a beer!
