Brumbies to test Stormers defence

Bringing an 'high-tempo game' to Newlands: Jake White

The Brumbies will stick with their attacking style of play when they face the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday.

That was the word from the Canberra-based franchise's coach, Jake White, whose side secured a try-scoring bonus point in the first half of their 29-10 win over the Sharks in Durban last weekend.

"I don't think we will change much from the first 40 minutes of last week, which is the way we want to play," he revealed.

"We have a strength in the way that we understand how we want to get the game going.

"We play a high-tempo game where we keep the ball in hand and asks questions of the defence. That is the style of rugby that people want to see and the style of rugby people have been talking about with the law changes.

"If that's the kind of rugby that you get if the laws are blown the way they are, then that's the sort of replication we want to do every week."

White does not read much into the fact that the Stormers conceded four tries against the Chiefs, in their last match, but believes that the men from the Cape's inability to score tries could work in his side's favour.

"The stats show and Allister (Coetzee) has agreed that his side needs to work on their attack," he said.

"But I feel if we score more tries than the Stormers it will be difficult for them to win the game with kicks."

The Brumbies matched the Sharks's physicality last week and captain Ben Mowen expects another tough battle in that department against the Stormers.

"We spoke about it a lot this week and expect the physicality to go up another level," he said.

"We think the Stormers will be at another level to where the Sharks were last week. We've prepared really well and are well aware of the challenges ahead of us."

Mowen identified the Stormers line-out and particularly Springbok lock Andries Bekker as a threat.

"It's always a huge challenge when you got a guy with Bekker's presence in the line-out," he added.

"The games that the Stormers do well in, he controls that area of the game well and is well supported by their other jumpers.

" That's another huge challenge for us this weekend. A massive part of their game is driving of that set-piece and getting their forwards into the game.

"But we have a very good line-out and the guys know we want to attack and the space we create through it.

" If we want to win against the Stormers we'll have to work bloody hard for it and we'll have to overcome their strong line-out if we want to do that."

Brumbies will shatter the Stormers defence. The Brumbies will finish top of the Aussie conference and are one of the most comprehensive teams this year. They are very likely to be in the top 2 and will hopefully have the pleasure of a home final.
