After two failed attempts, the Stormers finally got their first win of the 2013 Super Rugby season after beating the Chiefs 36-34 at Newlands on Saturday.

In a tight arm-wrestle, the hosts held off a late fightback from the defending champions to deposit four valuable points in the bank - despite being outscored four tries to three.

However, the boot of Stormers full-back Joe Pietersen ultimately proved the difference between the two sides and kept the home side ahead throughout a thrilling contest.

The hosts struck first through Pietersen, who was on hand once again to convert the Stormers opening try of the match when discarded Springbok speedster Gio Aplon came off his wing to take an Elton Janjties pass from close range to score.

Chiefs full-back Gareth Anscombe got his name on the scoresheet with a penalty of his own to close the gap slightly, before Pietersen added his second three-pointer moments later to steal back the Stormers' 10-point lead.

The vocal Newlands crowd were then silenced when the Chiefs hit back in typical fashion when centre Charlie Ngatai regathered a grubber kick ahead from Aaron Cruden for a well-earned try after sustained pressure on the Stormers line.

Anscombe's conversion made it a three-point (13-10) ball game, though the Chiefs could only watch helplessly as Pietersen's third penalty attempt sailed through the uprights in the 27th minute.

A yellow card to Chiefs halfback Tawera Kerr-Barlow eight minutes from half-time handed three more points to the Stormers on a silver platter from the ensuing penalty and all of a sudden the hosts were once again in a reasonably comfortable lead (19-10).

But with half-time approaching, the defending champs hit back with another excellent and crucial converted try through centre Tim Nanai-Williams after collecting Cruden's stab through ahead (19-17).

The Stormers would have the final say before the break, however, when Aplon crossed over for his second try - converted by Pietersen - to take his team into the half-time sheds 26-17 ahead.

The second half belonged the Chiefs early on after the visitors were restored to 15 men and Anscombe punished a Stormers infringment to put his team back within six points (26-20).

But Stormers scrum-half Nic Groom soon brought the 37,000-strong crowd to their feet when he burrowed over for his first ever Super Rugby try that was duly converted by goal-kicking machine Pietersen (33-20).

Down but not out, the visitors were given a glimmer of hope when Ngatai bagged his second and replacement back Andrew Horwell crossed over for their respective converted scores in between another Pietersen penalty.

With just two points between the two sides, the Chiefs threatened to snatch a late victory. But when Nick Crosswell was yellow-carded in the 74th minute, the Stormers were able to contain the 14-man Chiefs and see out the rest of the match for a well-earned victory.

Wrong! My accusation was directed at your behavior (or lack of) and your standing with everyone! Also, making up definitions and misusing words wont get you out of being a hypocrite! You can make misuse words all day, but its not gona change the fact Its time to man-up, take responsibility for yourself and have a good look at yourself first, before judging others!!

The very thing you judge others of, you do yourself! You can preach all you want, Wallaroo, but it it means nothing!, until you follow your own words! All your 'name calling, 'sweeping statements of a nation of people' and your 'critical', 'judging' and 'hypocritical' statements are not (true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable-- excellent or praiseworthy) is it, Wallaroo?? And choosing just part of this verse to justify your name calling, is another sign you are a hypocrite! lol..

Bad parents, lol. Problem children is an expression used broadly to describe many groups of people but hey feel free to misread and then misrepresent and then accuse the other person.

One of the things to think on is whatsoever is true, it's true that you behave like a moron and think that you are above the rest and I have thought about it. Done, I haven't missed the point at all.

Furthermore, if you not a Christian then how would you know what does and does not constitute Christianity. BTW I was hoping you would reinforce this point. So on this basis you have no right to get upset when someone makes a blanket or sweeping statement about Kiwis even if they are not a Kiwi.

Lastly you feel hook line and sinker for the Power in your username comment, was really funny seeing you explain it.

Look at his post for starters he thinks I'm calling all Kiwis bad parents when I refer to problem children which are actually the Kiwis on here that can't behave. The bloke has no common sense, he's far too literal for that.

This year I have decided that since Kiwi's find it okay to never correct any of the other Kiwis that behave like morons, and or to ever respond and admit when they are wrong, and or to fire blanket accusations at Saffas and Aussies then I'll do the same (before reverting back to how I really prefer to be). Funny how this has created so much confusion. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise I really don't like fighting but I will no longer put up with mightier than thou rubbish.

Sorry Ramage but blokes like Powerplay are idiots and have been for ages and if you can't see that why should I trust and respect you which I have always shown you - has he.

As I said to Trader2, I know you don't like Trinats but leave him alone he's my countryman and I'll leave your countrymen alone.

I know many Kiwi supporters who thought Bryce Lawrence did a bad job at the 2011 WC, they will not only agree, but say it to your face.

Also, just have a look at last weeks Hurricanes vs Reds game, many have said the ref made some dodgy call. But if you have a look you'd see that Hurricanes supporters said that it wasn't the refs fault. That their team didn't deserve to win anyway! Where is this "Kiwis, Every time, this and that etc etc??"

Brilliant Stormers! Now THAT is what I was talking about! Still far from perfect execution, but the attitude and passion I was begging for finally came out ! This game could've gone either way, the Chiefs certainly showed their quality, but even if you lost I would've been happy, because this is what your supporters are looking for - now you're giving us something to support!! Keep improving, keep up this attitude. When you get as good at what you do as the Chiefs are right now with what they do, then nobody will stop you.

Re your general sentiments, you'd be completely correct if Kiwis didn't get on their high horse every time an Aussie or Saffa pointed out inconsistencies with Kiwi teams, refs, etc. BTW at least Aussies and Saffas have the courtesy of remanding their problem children when they get out of hand. Ben7 week after week we have saffa posters claiming NZ refs are cheats, incompetent and the people in charge of referees because they are kiwis are corrupt and unprofessional. When South Africa lose a vicious vindictive hate campaign where people actually threatened the life of the referee were mounted. A person of the same name as the referee received death threats from people in South Africa. So before you start complaining about bad sports look closer to home

These posts have been very mild compared to the dribble that's been posted before! Even the neutral fan has said there were some dodgy calls! We haven't yet heard how the "IRB CEO (Australian Brett Gosper), fixed that game to make kiwi teams lose!!!"
